Quick question, are stock push rods hardned?

I'm putting on my new Edelbrock heads, and they say they require hardned pushrods. I'm not changing the cam yet so I was planning on keeping the stock push rods and rocker arms. So are the stock ones hardned? And why do they require hardned pushrods. These are PN 60329 pedestal mount.

i dont think they are hardened, hardened are used when you use guideplates. you might want to chech into if you can use stock ones though, i know with my trick flow heads, you need 6.700" instead of stock 6.200"

Ok, thats good to know. I left the instructions at work, so I'm just going by what I remember.

Another thing I noticed, on my old heads the bottom of the exhaust valves were red and the exhaust valve stem was white. What would cause this?

The stock push rods are not hardened, if you are running guide plates, Summit had Crane sets in the $50-$100 range - cheap insurance and it's waht I did.

I got the hardened ford motorsport ones from Mustang Unlimited they where like 50 bucks.

Is there a huge risk of some sort if I dont use hardned push rods? I'm planning on having the car back on the street friday, and don't have the money for new pushrods right now. Some day soon I plan on a cam/ intake change and I'll do all that for sure then.

I am planning a 347 stroker with Trick Flow twisted wedge Track Heat heads.
will the 6.700 work with htis combo or will i need something else.

the summit guy told me to get 1 adjustable rod to find the exact number I would need, but I saw your post and sparked my question

I think Edelbrock hardened pushrods are $40 on Summit's website. And if you're wondering if you need them.....well if Edelbrock says you need them, its probably a good idea to use them. It's probably due to the stiffer valve springs. Under a lot of pressure, non-hardened pushrods could bend.

Oh, ok yeah never thought about stiffer valve springs. Well hopefully it wont cause problems... I'f they do bend, I guess it will speed up my cam/ intake change LOL.'

i think 6.700" pushrods will work, ask trickflow

and hardened pushrods are for use with GUIDEPLATES because they rub on the guideplates and wear out. hardened ones resist wear from this. stock ones will not bend but they will wear out earlier, thats why they recommend hardened ones.
