I'm tired of the noise even though sure, sounds good for being loud.

One guy told me that Dynomax turbo mufflers were quieter yet didn't restrict flow on his 10 second car.

Any opinions?

He is correct.

I picked up a few HP on the dyno by switching from Flows to Dynomax Super Turbos.

I too was tired of the noise.

Yes if you don't want the drone then time to go with a different brand. Many good brands out there. Personally i like the flows but each to there own.

Flowtech Afterburners on mine. At idle they are quiet, on the highway they sound great and very little drone.

sorry...no sound clip..

also going with a x-pipe can change the exhaust note so it is more inside car friendly.

What kind of flows do you have? 2 chambered are loud. But 3 chambered arent much noisier then stock muffs!

Magnaflows are fairly quiet in normal driving but I hear the Super turbos are quieter.I also heard someone say that the Super turbos have a drone when you get rid of the cats but I don't know that.

which is the best one for less internal noise because i've heard dynomax ultraflow in iddle with dumps and inside car you feel like 18" woofer wich is the quiet one inside the car i don't care out side this question is for a friend with a 351 little big cam and other stuff with 3" exhaust with dumps! and with welded case!

I had Dynomax super turbos 2 1/4" and they were a little louder than stock, not much, but drones like heck at 1800-2200. I endured it for 7 years when they rusted out.
I recently put on Flowmaster 3 chambers 2 1/2 and gained a seat of pants feel vs the dynomax 2 1/4". This is on a stock HPipe and motor. They are just as loud, maybe drone a little less inside the cabin.
Only way to get rid of drone is to use different mufflers. Look at the stock ones, one is larger than the other.

I don't know which Flowmasters are on my car as they were installed by the previous owner but with the 351W HO crate engine, it's freakin' loud....like a Harley. When I get on it, anyone within at least a square mile can hear me so it's hardly "stealthy". Let's say the call phone rings, forget about trying to hear anyone on the other end until you shut the engine off.
I'd rather have all the power with alot less noise if that's possible.

Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers always kept me happy before, aside from the one minus point that you pretty much have to weld them (their end fittings are too rigid for most clamps). I've had them on three different cars and loved 'em every time. If you check the article quoted above, they also are among the quietest noise levels at cruise ... although when you really romp on it, they also suddenly can become the loudest, so it works both ways.

I would suggest Pypes Violator muffs, too, but I'm not sure how they stack up as far as decibels and such against other brands. I've had a set of 'em on when I was using my cat'ed UPR X-pipe and they sounded great, weren't too loud, and had no noticable drone (it moved the drone range up higher in the RPM band than the Super Turbos I replaced). However, I made the rather stupid choice of swapping those out in favor of a set of side-exit Super Turbos when I bolted up my off-road X-pipe; the new setup doesn't drone, either, but it sounds way too Uncle Jessie for me (too much like a pickup truck or low-grade Harley). Soon as I find a place where it's "legal" for me to work on my car (and the time to do it), I'm going to swap back to the Pypes Violators. I can give you a better review of 'em with an off-road X at that point. 'Till then, best I can offer for sound clips and such is featured on my MySpace page (same user name).

That is correct. The Super Turbos are quiet mufflers, but they do drone from about 2000-3000 RPM. I have MAC equal length headers and an O/R H-pipe. They sound nice but I want something louder to be honest.

I had them on my 89 coupe with a VRS X-Pipe and they had no drone.

I also picked up a few HP on the dyno to boot.

Just a note on the chart posted above. The Flowmasters used in the test were some oversized nonstandard muffler so the ones you buy for your Mustang won't be that quiet which shouldn't surprise anyone.

The drone only gets annoying after an hour or two in the car, I'd be willing to bet other mufflers might have a worse drone. Maybe the H/C/I combo on my car makes it worse than others? Thats kinda the reason i'm looking for a louder muffler, I dont drive the car daily and if its gonna drone, it might as well be louder.
