Racheting noise on my clutch pedal

I recently replaced the cable and put in a firewall adjuster (was gonna do the quadrant but previous owner had already done it) and the noise seemed to stop plus the pedal was ALOT softer. However after having it on their a few days the racheting noise came back (like a pop, pop felt in the clutch) and the pedal seems to get hard to push as the engine gets hot. Anyone know wth is causing this? I've already checked the firewall for flex so i know this isnt the problem. Thanks in advance.

Check the routing and make sure it is not close to the headers or exhaust. Also make sure there are no sharp bends in the cable.
Sounds like it might be something like this due to the clutch getting hard to press when the car gets hot.

What kind of cable and FWA did you buy?

Yeah I have the same problem....but it seems as it does not get worse when hot....just the ratcheting noise.

Its a kit from summit that came w/ cable/quadrant/firewall adjuster. The cable is not near the headers and is a nice smooth shot (no kinks in the cable) dunno what is the problem.

Edit: I noticed when i was underdash that the dowels that hold the aluminum quadrant in place had alot of play between the the cotter pins, does this need to be shimmed out?

Yes it needs to be shimmed. It has to be shimmed so that the cable has a straight shot frim the quadrant to the cable housing.

Well i got it to start making the popping noise and reached under the dash and put my hand on the quadrant. The noise is definately not coming from there. So i'll need a second person to push the clutch while i climb under the car and take a look. Thanks for your help 89sleeper tho, ironically my stang looks almost identical to yours. Lates

No problem.
If it is comming from under your car then it could possibly be a bad TOB or something wrong with the clutch fork.
Then again you might have a bad cable even though it is new.
I like this cable the best myself. A STOCK NON ADJUSTABLE cable like this one for $39.
