ha well who didn't expect this thread. So without going into discussion why or for what reason i'm interested in purchasing one. Whos got them in any of there cars? Do they work pretty good? I've been looking at a few Cobra radar detectors but i'm just wondering if any of you guys have any expierence with them? Do they actually work or they just a waste of money?

Just so everyone knows. Radar Detectors do not keep you from getting a ticket. The radars that the police are using are monetary, they flip them on and track whoever, then flip them back off. We learned about how they work in the academy, hopefully when we get further along we will learn to use them. So in otherwords, by the time your radar detector goes off hes already got you. Unless he is clocking someone else, then that is when they come in handy.

Mine has saved my ass a few times too. They are very good if a cop is radar someone up ahead and you can get the signal from that car and it will alert you to slow down...On the state highways by me a lot of cops use the laser now and you cant really do to much with that unless you pick up a signal bouncing off another car, but then again many cops around town just leave their radar on all the time...I love driving by my cop station and having the highest level Ka alert going off.

Do not expect a radar detector to save you from a ticket 100%. I use mine just as a reminder when I hear the beep to check my speed. Don't even know why I have one, I always put it on cruise for about 5 mph over the speed limit anyway.

No i totally understand that. I'd just like any help possible. Even if they worked okay it would be worth it!

worth EVERY penny! mine has paid for itself many times over! not a guarantee that u won't get caught speeding, but it does work a lot of the time. as others have said, there are ways cops can make your detector not work like you might think it should, but even if it lets you slow down a bit to get a smaller ticket, it helps. i guess cops up here aren't as clever because they usually leave their radar on, and i know when they're waiting usually 10 seconds before i can see them. i have two, and i suggest getting a good model. my first didnt work very well, but my new cobra is the balls!

What model did you buy? I was looking at the cobras also..

If its legal to use a radar detecter/laser jammer in you county/state I would say go for it. Rocky mountain radar has a good setup for like $300.00, In the state I live in Radar is legal but I never got a ticket for having my radar detecter/laser jammer. They never mentioned anything to me except I wasted my money on the detecter lol

if your really speeding by the time you hear it that already see you.

Radar is automatically attracted to the largest vehicle at first but will eventually get to you. The radar detector is worth it's weight in gold when commuting to work or home or even on vacation on a busy road.

Mine has saved me many times in moderate traffic. However, if you're all alone and they zap you it's all over. I got a ticket with my radar detector on a few years ago this way. Mostly around here they pick the heavily traveled areas to radar and they leave it on.
