Radar Detectors: Whos Using What?

So you say we should take our information from just 1 source? I realize that some people may not want to do more than that. But I would imagine that people doing any real comparision shopping. Would likely look up more than 1 source. I know that I personally would look for more than C&D as a source of info.ExCon said:

v1, deff. I have had a few detectors including the 8500 x50 but the v1 is the best. But im stupid and have to sell it (to my friend at least) to help pay for these 3 tickets in the last weekand a lawyer. (42 in a 15, 60 in a 40, and unsafe start.)

No detector is going to protect you. Just give you a little better odds.
One additional point on the price of a V1. It includes a fantastic upgrade/repair policy that no one else has. I can get my V1s repaired from most types of damage for $35. If the unit cannot be repaired or there is new upgraded capability in the latest model I get a brand new one for half price..... for as long as I own them.
One of mine is in getting upgraded right now.
I chose my detector after owning almost every one. My Boxster S and M3 had the $1200.00 K40 unit. I have owned the 8500, Bel, Cobra Etc. One of my faults is I WANT THE BEST. I thought the best cost $1200.00, I was wrong. The best detector out there is the Valentine 1. Some people complain about falsing and its a valid point. How do you make the most sensitive detector on the market without falsing? Everywhere you go your bombarded by radar signals from automatic doors etc. I want to be AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE and the V1 is the only detector WITH 2 ANTENNAE.
When you think about it a MONKEY can make the proper choice. Would you prefer a detector that RECIEVES SIGNALS only from the front? Or would you buy the detector the RECEIVES SIGNALS FROM BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE CAR? This is not quantum physics gentlemen. Any idiot can see the huge advantage in the Valentine1.

GT03, the "antennae" you are referring to on your unit is a laser detection device. Yes your detector provides 360 degree LASER protection. It is NOT a radar Antennae. Read your paperwork carefully and you will see the clever marketing used to deceive. Look your detector is a great unit, the best BANG FOR BUCK but it does not have the same performance as the V1 PERIOD. If I was watching every dollar, the 8500 would be my number 1 choice since it is less expensive yet does work pretty well. BTW: Used to live in the Poconos!!

I was replying to general, blanket, statement that "Your detector CANNOT pick up signals from behind you, ...". As you pointed out, it can pick up a laser from behind you

SVT, as I said I think its a very good detector and is a sure winner. Does it beat the V1 in terms of performance? No. Does it beat it in terms of bang for your buck? Yes! I will stay with the best of the best, the V1 but it does false more due to dual antennae and increased sensitivity. What I don't get are these guys with 140K Porsches and they are using a cordless Solo or a Bel or Cobra. They have the money to buy a car like that but not enough brains to buy a good detector.

The Escort and Bel units are supposed to have a forward antenna and a rear antenna as well.
V1 upgrades can cost money depending on how old your unit is, and the lack of a dark mode makes the V1 too visible w/o spending more money on concealed displays.

To get all of the same stuff that a Passport 8500 X50 has on a Valentine One you would need to spend upwards of $500 bucks. I think I'll keep my $200 bucks and just drive a little bit safer than how I would with the V1. I can't justify $500 bucks on a V1 even if it is the better one (which is biased). I like the fact that they have an upgrade program deal, but I still can't justify it.

Ya know, this debate between Escort 8500 x50 and V1 has been hashed and rehashed SO many times. As somebody that has been driving fast in fast cars for longer than most of you have been alive, and have owned lots of detectors, I can tell you- both units are first class pieces. There isn't any significant difference in PERFORMANCE between the two.
Quite honestly, I can afford either unit, and my last purchase, after researching, I went with the Escort 8500 x50. I bought 2 of them (my wife drives her Miata faster than I drive my 'Stang) and can't say enough good things about them. When I first started using this unit, I thought I was getting false alarms, but they were real alerts, it's just that I was getting them so far away from the cop, I didn't believe them-now I do.
The people that say one or the other of these units is a lot better than the other is, well, full of it. I think a lot of those that buy the V1 are buying it because it is the most expensive, if so- knock yourself out. Personally, I don't like the V!'s looks, but hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The arrows, pardon, but I think this is a gimmick, with or without the arrows, the result is the same SLOW DOWN. The bogey counter, eh, probably the same but the Escort has a better version of this feature in the EXPERT mode. If you have an 8500 and haven't tried it, do so.
Anyway, buy what you like (it's your money), and save your venom for the Chevy guys. Peace!
