Ram Air install and Battey relocate finished..

I'm not too good w/ posting pic's into a message so here is the link to my site. This was the funnest mod I've done, the ram air install that is...The Taylor relocate seems to have worked great, I'm not the fastest worker so it took me a little while but i got it... Hopefully I can make it to the stripe this friday and see if i can pick up a tenth or two...

kickass. It looks modern almost. So where is the ducting going to to get air?

A 4" hole was drilled on each side of the radiator support and a 4" duct was installed. I know because he borrowed my hole saw.

Looks good! Where is your vent tube on the battery box? When you turn the switch off with the car running will it shut it down?

It's kind of hard to see from the pic but the vent tube is below the black
ground cable and i ran it to a hole in the bottom of the quarter. Glad you asked about the switch as I'm testing it tonight. But yes, it's suppose to kill everything when off.

From the pictures, it looks like you did a good job. I like the switch in the light like that, looks great =)

If you run an optima or another battery of a similar type is a vent tube still required ?

I actually want to get a optima red top but ran out of funds, my old battery if fine for now, i guess you may not have to have a vent tube w/ optima
style battery, i will just leave the tube in there regardless b/c the box came w/ the hole in it already..i'm sure others would know better than I, I'm just a novice for sure...

If you run at a track that inspects per NHRA rules than yes you still need a vent reguardless of the battery type.

nice work. I am going ram air but a bit differently. I am cutting a hole in the hood and raising the air filter to just above the hood where it will be covered with a Boss 429 hood scoop. I will seal off the air filter from the rest of the engine by mocking up a ram air seal similar to 71-73 mustangs.

You could also use an 83 GT air cleaner but you would have to move 1 of the inlets and remove the vacume controllers.

I fired her up tonight and everything worked perfect, had full 12 volts on the relay post and battery, started car and had a little over 14 at idle, hit the switch and everything shut down...looks like i will be making it to the track tomorrow night for sure....

Ram Air box looks great, let us know if you pick up any tenths - you definately need to break into the 13's at 100+.

I, also, really like the kill switch install.

I don't mean to whore this thread but does anyone think that a ram air system like that could be made to work with a NASA hood? It might be a cheap alternative for poor university students like myself. Also, did you notice any difference in performance? Let us know the results!

I put a 1" spacer on my carb and the ram air aircleaner would no longer fit so I went the the junkyard and got an air cleaner from a late '80's F150 and used my 14" KN lid and filter. Viola, I had a $10 ram air cleaner. I will try to post a pic once I get home from work later.

Again, use an early 80s GT air cleaner with the dual snorkle inlets. You need to move one of the snorkles because they are spaced too wide and they will hit the shock towers if one of them is not relocated. It would also be good to remove the vacuume regulators. They are angled downward.

To use it with a NASA hood instead of running the snorkle out the front you could provably flip them upside down and shorten them and then use flex hose and something to seal it all off.
