Ran Out Of Talent.....

So last Tuesday on my way home from work I turned onto the side street a block from my house. When I did this, it didn't step out a little, for some reason, it decided to snap itself around and plant me into an 8 foot cinder block wall. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Insurance company is writing it off. When all is said and done I'll have about $4000 to fix it. From best I can tell, a core support, hood, and everything in front of the core support is all that's needs replaced. Didn't get the suspension. Fenders are pushed back an 1'8th inch but the mounting structure looks fine. The square under the hood, is still a square. I'll take some detailed pics tomorrow for ya'll to laugh at. USAA told me today not to look for a check for 2 to 3 weeks. Bastards. Anyone know anything about rebuilding salvage titles? I've checked the Nevada DMV. Need to read it a bit more indepth. BTW, if you'll remember I got hit by a truck March 26th 2014, this happened March 18th, 2015. Cars not leaving the garage next march.

Sorry to hear that man. I'm not too crazy about the salvage title business. I also don't know much about it. I'm sure you are capable of doing the work but 4G could get you a fresh canvas, if you know what I mean. May want to reinvest the money into a new ride.

That sucks. Did you tell usaa about your mods? They claim they will reimburse up to 5k worth of stuff on top of whatever they value the car at.

Fwiw, if u can get the $ and keep the car, you could probably find a clean new edge around there (or Phoenix/Cali) and yank the motor and trans out of yours, install the blower and then stuff it into the new one. Just an idea.

My experience with USAA is they are so full of you can smell 'em from ten miles. Mods made no difference. More pics of carnage.

There was is a black 2000 on Craigslist that looks nice for $4000.

I still think a core support and it will be good. The folks who do the work are on their way back from tx2k15. When they get back, gonna have them look it over. LRS sells that terminal conversion nose for $670.

Yea, it doesn't look at bad as I thought it would from your description. I have done several core supports out of my shop for the fox mustangs but these cars are just about the same. Are you planning on doing the work yourself. You can buy a core support, fender and fender aprons from late model or American Muscle I think sells them too. Hopefully the fender aprons are straight.

Oh, and maybe a header panel : )

Best I can tell, everything but the core support is straight. If this was an old GM Abody, I jump all over the core support myself. This being one of those weird unibody things, gonna have someone else do it.

I DD a fox currently and I'd avoid it if you can. While it's a good car, I have spent just about every spare moment the last 6-8 months working on it to keep it road worthy. A lot of it was upgrading things like brakes, suspension, etc. but it's just now to the point that I don't have to work on it constantly.... Even though the starter crapped out this weekend.

If you end up doing it, I HIGHLY suggest ripping the entire interior out and spending $400 on sound deadener. worth it's weight in gold.

PS how's the weather? Will be in your area this weekend.

getting the A/C, heat, gauges, etc would be a pain in the d1ck if that's your DD and had to get it done in a hurry.

Yeah, it would be a pain and I doubt I'll do it. But a blown 4eyed mod fox would be cool, and I already have most of the stuff to do it.

What they are saying is very true. I daily drove my old 87' for 10 years and while I loved the car the SN95 and New Edge Mustangs are FAR more comfortable to drive. A/C is very important to me in the summer and even though I converted it to 134a by spending the money to do it right it never seemed to get as cold as I wanted it to.

As it stands at the moment, I'm fixing what I have. Taking it to the shop this weekend and make some final decisions, but looks like it's getting fixed. Not sure how hard getting the title from salvage to rebuilt is going to be.

If you decide to fix it, you'd better be hanging onto it for a looooong time and don't plan on putting any mods on it, that can't be easily removed.....because come resale time, you're not gonna get jack for a salvage title car.

If you insist on letting them write it off, I'd kick and scratch for every dollar you can get out of them. Otherwise, I'd fight for them to fix it, rather than total it.

Not worried about resale. I like the car and am kind of attached to it. It still drives fine. Only running vehicle I have at the moment so I still drive it. Figured with full coverage through USAA I'd have a rental car, but nope, no rental for me. Thanks USAA. I have a lien against it. USAA has told me they've spoken to the lien holder and sent them a check. Lien holder says they've never spoken to USAA. Who do you believe? s becoming a nightmare quickly. I'm still weeks from any kind of settlement, and knowing myself, will probably change my mind 50 more times as to what to do. Getting real fed up over the whole thing.

Whatever happens....make sure the amount on the check covers what the car is actually insured for (worth) and not just what's left owing on it. I've never seen an insurance settlement yet that didn't need to be argued in order to reach an amicable payout.

I deal with auto insurance companies quite often in my line of work and they're all the same. Their bottom line comes first in their eyes, so never accept the first offer.
