Rant about cable hi-speed internet

 I hate Comcast. "We're better than DSL." Bullzhit. DSL is a dedicated line, and constant speed all the time. My 768kbps DSL was way faster than this Comcast 3.0mbps service. The upstream on the DSL was 128kps, and it was constant. It never skipped a beat. It always ran near that. The upstream on this is like 256kbps, but I have not seen anything better 70. I'll be playing a game online, and all of sudden everything gets choppy and I lose the server. The same game with DSL never missed, and I always had low ping. My DSL never locked up, and was always kicking in full speed. This cable stuff is only slightly better than dial up. Sometimes it is really fast, but most of the time it is slow. It sucks having to share bandwidth with a 1000 other people. All it takes is some punk kid or loser porno addict to start a 300 meg download, and the whole service goes to crap. I have to reset the connection at least twice a day. I'm calling Verizon tomorrow and getting my DSL back. And satellite TV kicked the crap outta cable. I went from 140 channels to 65. DSL plus Direct TV was costing $65 a month total. 40 for TV and 25 for DSL. This cable bull is costing me $85 month, and that is the intro rate. Don't let Comcast/Direct Path/whatever cable companies rip you off. If you can't get a dish, then you're stuck with cable. If you can get DSL, go with it. There is more at work an just advertised speeds. I knew this, but I wanted to try and consildate my monthly entertainment bill with a bundle. Screw cable. They're putting out a lot of propaganda ads on TV, because they know they suck and can't compete.

I am on 8 meg down 768k up comcast.. with powerboost it's over 26 megs down.. soon we are getting powerboost on the uploads too.. powerboost kinda of sucks because it only lasts for the first few minutes of a download.

I can't stand comcrap myself and I want to get verizon FIOS 20 meg down 5 meg up line, but I live in a apartment so I can't get it, and I just found out last night that verizon is selling off it's interest in NH,ME and VT... I am buying a house in NH this year and it sucks because the fios lines are already up and I won't be able to get it

Verizon is taking all the FIOS equipment out of NH and sending it to massachusetts and new jersey

So it looks like I am stuck with comcrap forever :nonono:

Only thing I like about comcrap is that I can see all the patriots and red sox games in HD..

we have verizon dsl and love it but im actually thinking about switching to satellite internet through verizon just to see how that is. If anyone has the sat. internet let me know how u like it.

verizon offers satellite internet?? As far as I know they offer DSL and FIOS.. FIOS is a fiber optic internet connection and is badass.. If you can get that then hell yeah go for it.

satellite is what people who can't get any other broadband get, the latency is bad, ping times is high.. but it's a hell of a lot better than dial up.

I have the internet, TV and unlimited long distance phone service for $150 per month. Everything seems to work good here. I had the same thing on LI for $20 per month less.

What blows is the NFL! They only give the NFL Network to select providers and the NFL Sunday Ticket is only available on the DirectTV!

I have the FiOS. It is the fastest, most stable internet circuit I've ever had. The 15mB service is around the same price as Comcast's crap, and I've never seen less than 1.8mB upload speeds. As for the Comcast speed test on speakeasy - do you get those speeds on any other site, like Toast.net, DSLreports, etc.? Just curious.

Yeah Fios FTW... but they sold there assets in NH ( where I am buying a house) including FiOS ( already have 86k homes wired) so i will never see FiOS now :nonono: To make it worse what incentive is comcast going to have to improve speeds in NH now that they will be the only real internet option..

Massachusetts will have pleanty of FiOS and has many other high speed options BUT I detest Massachusetts and all the corrupt communist SCUM that run this state. So I have to move, the new Gov. was the last straw NO way in hell will I buy a house in massachusetts.. Plus with chairman (govenor) patricks new utility tax plan I think verizon and comcast will be run out of the state soon.. LOL all that will be left is MUNI. internet run by the state.. LOL 150 bucks a month for 128k down and 56k up

They were initially planning on doing all three lines of business (Video, Internet, Phone) but they are finding out the time and equipment needed for it all is costing them too much. They aren't recouping their costs. Look for them to be selling more of there "assets" as time passes. I used to work for Verizon and they aren't a good company. They treat their customers bad and their employees worse! Hated working there!

On the Internet issue, I had a Verizon 3Mb connection, and I usually I tested around 2.2-2.5 down. With Comcast I have a 6Mb connection and never test under 12Mb. Verizon FTL!!

a 300mb **** or any file will not disrupt a whole neighborhood cable internet service. Your area just has crappy lines and you need to call comcast and tell them bring up a field technician b/c its seems like a problem with your area/your house lines and not just comcast.
How many splitters is on your homes cable line? Are they quality splitters? Some things to think about.
btw, i have comcast and its fine.

Dude don't bitch, live in a 3rd world country and experience ULTRA HI-Speed 1mbps DSL that gives you 750k to over sea sites... They claim a new 4mbps cable but people are getting 1.5mbps.

Comcast gives me (reported on multiple speed tests) 13-17mbps on a 5mbps connection.
