So I got to wondering. when it comes to different lb injectors and LPH fuel pumps, do higher volumes ones actually cost more to make than lower volume pieces? I can't image it costs anymore to make a 255 lph fuel pump than the stock 88lph pump same with injectors. Yet there is a 200$ spread in price between 24lb injectors and 42lb injectors.

The differences are probably explained in "economies of scale". Large production runs are just more economical at the end of the day.

That's why I love the "used" market we enjoy so much. I will happily fork over 150 bucks tomorrow for a very lightly used set of green tops.

NotA4.6, I often wondered that a few times myself. Like, how much we spend because an item is desirable vs how much we spend because an item costs more to make. There are many items on the aftermarket that more than likely cost less to make than a factory piece. Yet we spend more for it. Still you have to figure in that it costs time and money to develop such items.

Kirban Adjustable Fuel Regulator for a FOX $79 for a 94-95 $129. Never got that, same piece. As for injectors and fuel pumps, all made identical as well, should be all the same price. I remember buying green tops for $300 (new) back in the day and that was cheap. I bought red tops (30lb, new) for my 347 and paid like $189. Never understood that either, different color and smaller pin hole opening only difference. I may call my congressman later. As my wife says "Write them an email".

Retail prices are not always driven by input costs. Marketing hype, supply and demand and a number of other factors are at play.It works both ways. That's why some item are sold at discounts well below costs.

As state earlier, different scales of production runs will account of different prices as well as supply and demand. And while I don't know that injectors are all the same except for nozzle size and color I can see where costs of production would be different between common sizes and less common sizes. Maybe the red tops had to be discounted to reflect supply and demand conditions.
