Re-Build Thread, 1989 Saleen Drag Car

My car has a trans brake, but was never triggered with the Fast. Neither was the Boost Controller. I did use the Fast for a Driveshaft speed sensor and at one point had a 3 axis G meter, but never got it to work right. I will be looking to see if the Holley can operate the Boost Controller that is now done independently with a Boost Leash system. Also want to integrate the trans brake control. I did upgrade to dual wideband sensors and will probably be getting a crank case vacuum/pressure sensor. Lots of options for sure. The engine already has a crank trigger/cam sync used with the Fast.
If the leash setup is just a dual mac valve setup you could eliminate the leash . Wire the mac valves to the pwm out put on the Holley and Build a advanced table for it

Got the lower intake manifold installed tonight.

What is the gauge on the filler tube?
That is a vacuum gauge. I run a evac pump on the engine and I monitor crankcase vacuum at idle.
Now that I have a Holley Dominator EFI, I will be putting on a pressure sensor so I can data-log the crankcase vacuum at all time, but especially during a pass.

A little progress today. Not much energy today for working on the car. Yesterday finished a work schedule of working 10 out of the last 11 days. Plus spent 2 hrs mowing the lawn and replacing a 16' long 2x6 on the side deck and getting it stained.
Anyway, I went to Lowes on Friday night after work and picked up a 3/16" thick piece of plexiglass to mount the Dominator ECU to. Holley is pretty adamant about not letting the ECU tough metal/ground. About the only place I could find to mount the ECU was on the passenger floor. Used some 1.5" high spacers to get it up off the floor and to clear the slope in the trans tunnel. Used nutcerts in the floorpan. Those work real well. I I have a lot of harness that needs to be plugged in, wires routed ect.

Also got some wiring done in the engine compartment, not much, but having to switch over from the Fast XFI harness connectors to Holley style for the sensors. Thought it was going to be easy as Fast uses Weatherpack connectors for sensors like Holley does. Turns out that Fast uses a Male end on the TPS and Holley uses the Female end. Or Fast uses round pins and Holley uses flat pins. The MSD crank trigger is 2 wire, the Holley crank trigger harness connector is 3 wire. Same with the distributor, I have 2 wires out of the MSD and the Holley ignition pigtail is 3 wire. Plus none of the wire colors match up. Have to do some research to find which is power/ground/signal and then make the changes.

I got the main harness in the car.
The harness for the engine is a bit disappointing. The lead for the coolant temp sensor, and intake air temp sensor are too short and will need to be lengthened. Those sensors are in the stock location, so have short leads does not make any sense, unless they expect me to cram a lot more of the main harness into the engine compartment, which I don't want. The weather pack end for the TPS is male and I need a female end. The weather pack end for the 3 bar MAP sensor is wrong for the sensor and will have to be changed. I will not be using the IAC or Oil pressure harnesses. I am going to be using one of the many inputs available to install a combo oil pressure/oil temp sensor. The engine idle rpm is high enough that an IAC is not necessary. The fuel pressure sensor lead is long enough to work just fine.

Here is the rest of the main harness in the car that plugs into the ECU. I will be able to shorten the overall length of this harness by around 2.5' once I get everything up and running like it should. A lot going on, need to start hooking up the wires for fuel pump, key on power, wide band O2's ect.

I also managed to get my oil pan heater installed to the bottom of the oil pan. Since I run a semi-synthetic 20-50 race oil, I like to have the oil hot before I crank the engine over. It helps with lubrication the engine faster due to the oil being thinner at temp. Pick of the heater before install.

Made more progress. I have the wiring pretty much complete. Powered everything up and there was no smoke leaving the wires! Starter cranks, fan and fuel pumps work. So happy about that. Put some of the front accessories drive bits on. Still waiting for the crank pullies to get back from the machine shop.

I haven’t used a fox part number harness I know my universal I had to extent my oil pressure , fuel pressure and coolant temp to where it had to reach.

I cut the tps off and used a weather pack the day I installed it . I ditched the ford iac . The iac control in Holley for the ford is lack luster . I see guys are now doing and advanced table to control it it but I honestly prefer the gm iac . It made my car night and day
