I cannot seems to get my C4 tranny to mate properly with my 84 302. I have gotten the 157thooth flexplate, bellhousing, and block plate. I am using ATC FM18 convertor. When I bolt the bell to the engine it will put the crank and tranny in such a bind that it will not move. Can someone point me in the right direction for the torque convertor. The convertor is a 24 spline, 10.5in bolt pattern and seems to be sitting properly in the tranny. Can I get a part number from one of you guys for a torque convertor that you have used in your V8/c4 setup for the 157tooth bellhousing. Any help would be appreciated.

What is the imbalance of the flexplate, 28 or 52?

I've seen a situation where we were using a 52 oz flexplate and the counterweight wasn't welded properly to the flex plate and it would hit the inspection cover. What a nightmare that was! :bang:

I'm using the 50oz tci flexplate. It will get in a bind even without the flexplate bolted on. As far as the pilot beaing/bushing, I don't think so since the TC will fit onto the crank. Can anyone give me the overall dimensions from the tip of the pilot shaft to the tip of the other end to make sure this convertor was not rebuilt incorrectly. T

Thanks for all your help.

When I put the convertor onto the tranny I can feel it do two click on. When I get it to what I think is all the way on the stud for the torque convertor are flush with the outer edge of the bellhousing. Is this correct. How else can I tell if it is all the way on. Should it turn freely?

Ditto, the studs shouldn't be protruding past or even with the bellhousing, the block plate sits between the block and bell, so they'd be touching the block plate. They should be somewhat recessed into the bell and clear the block plate.

I'm using a torque convetor from Advance Auto Parts listed as an FM18, would this be the right one. Why can't I get it to go any farther into the tranny. Could it be the bellhousing. I know I got a 157tooth.

I can't speak for the correctness of the converter you've gotd, I do know that seating those damn torque converters is a royal pain. I've had similar problems when I've done engine and tranny swaps. Just when you think you've got the converter seated, you'll find that it will push in one more click. Just keep working it until you finally get it recessed into the bell housing. Once you get it the first time, you'll understand.

Good luck! :nice:
