I have started the removal of the rear axle last week... I will be painting it (also under the car) and an oil change (40 years without.... me think)

What is that foam, did it remove all the crap on the axle?

I've done it on my own, using a hydraulic jack and some axle stands.
Oh and some strength

What I actually mant to ask is how did you pull the axle shaft out of the housing?
I can"t get mine to budge even using a slide hammer.

I used a pry bar if I remember correctly and a bit of persuasion.

I have turned a drum around and put 3 lug nuts and use that and some anger as a poor mans slide hammer.

I have since bought the big a$$ slide hammer now.
