Rear Brakes

I just replaced the rear brake shoes on my 90 convertiable, but now I'm hearing the shoes drag when I apply the brakes and on a takeoff from a stop. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks for any input

sounds like your self adjusting brakes are working too well (that is a joke - they often dont work at all).

sounds like they are too tight (or your drums are out of round, and catching on the bad spots). remember the star wheels? those are the adjusters. there are little tabs that pop out of the backing plate (some cars still have the original metal ones; most have seen the same problem as you, and have them removed). you normally get rubber replacements with a spring kit (hope you did that - it is a good idea).

anyhow, pop the tab off and adjust the wheel so it is not so tight. good luck.

If you never removed the old ones, they are probably still there. They are located directly behind the star (auto adjuster) on the backside of the backing plate. You remove it and then you can adjust them manually.

One other thing worth mentioning is you may have a partially siezed parking brake cable.
