hello everyone, im new here and just starting my first rebuild, i picked up a 86 5.0 lx and im going to redo the whole thing. at least thats my plans. my first question is how do i find out what gears are in the rear? size?
On the pumpkin in the rear there should be a metal tag on one of the main bolts holding the cover on... it should be the first number, then L, then the second number. In my case it said 2.L.73 (unfortunately)
The tag should be the same for all. Stock 87 and up 5.0s came with 2:73's. If you have a 7.5in rear end you will and are redoing the stang there are lots of 8.8's out there cheap. Your 86 should have an 8.8 in it.
