I recently put in amsoil synthic fluid in the rearend, along with a TA perfermance girtle and cover. Since then when at the track i'm only getting one tire at first then both but not that good on the driver side. When i launch with slicks it wants to pull to the driverside do to poor traction. I have all the syspension mods done including an air bag on the passenger side, the car use to launch stright and level. So i thought it was due to the ratio of fluid verses modifier. So i added another tube and still the same? So do you think it's because of the synthic fluid, getting on the clutches? If so how would i drain all it out and get the clutches cleaned off of the fluid to install regular fluid? Or do you think now i just need to add more clutches? I have the 8.8 with new trac lock and 4.10 gears. peace

Was the posi working fine before you added the synthetic?

I would guess that the synthetic is not working well with the clutches. Maybe it's "too" slippery, and not letting the clutches grab?

I've never run synthetic in an 8.8 that I can recall, so this is just a guess.

As far as cleaning the synthetic off the clutches, I suppose you could remove the clutches and soak them in some solvent, and then soak them in regular gear oil before re-installing. I couldn't gurantee that wouldn't damage them, but I think they would be fine.

Did you put Ford Friction Modifier in it?

Cant remember if this is slippery enhancing or makes the clutches stick.

If it worked before, call Amsoil.

Mine work with plain old dino oil and friction modifier.

I've seen magazine articles on synthetic in rears though, so it probably can be made to work.

As indicated, modifier makes the Trac Lok not bite as hard - just the opposite of what you want (the purpose of modifier is to eliminate chatter while cornering).

Many synthetics dont require additional modifier anyhow..............

Good luck.

So are you saying to drain the fluid and replace it with just synthic oil and NO modifier? And yes if i remember right it launched fine before the new oil mod and cover. peace

John, as much as it hurts to dump fresh synthetic gear oil, it'd be what I'd do.

If you have a car with an open diff, you might be able to put the old stuff in there so it's not a total waste.

You might want to see if anyone has other thoughts on how to deal with the existing fluid/mixture too. I cant think of any other solutions.

Good luck.

Same happen to my Cobra with just regular fluid. Time after time of track weekends, my car was like a 1 legged man in an A$$ kicking contest. 660 dollars later, my posi worked again. All the clutches were burnt out. No wonder my 60ft times went from consecutive 1.8's to 2.2's In a heartbeat

No slicks just many many runs on Nitto Drag Radials. If they put more clutches in the rear end, they have to dimantle the pigs so yes the backlash will have to be reset to safe specs. The shop will have to do it.

Another thing to consider is ford now sells an upgraded set of clutches for the trac lok. Says its from the 03/04 cobras and holds more torque, that being said its also worth alot more money.

And as for resetting the shims for patter on the gears it is not necassary. You do not even touch the pinion and as long as you make sure you put the carrier shims back where they came from you will be alrite. Definately a job that can be in done in the driveway in an afternoon. Good Luck.
