Rectangle Mass Air Meter Connector

I have an 88 GT California Mass Air car. I recently acquired a Pro M meter and the connector for the Pro M is round but my mass air connection is squared. It seems all my stanger friends have a oval connection but my harness is squared as well as my stock MAF. I also checked and all pro M meters have that oval connection. Is my car weird because its an 88 mass air car? My car was bone stock when i bought it.

BTW will it be okay if i just went to the junk yard and got an oval connector and spliced it in?

Sorry don't know the answer about splicing but I would try it if I were you.
On a related note, where would someone buy just the electronic connector to the MAF?

The pins come out of the MAF connector. All it takes is a jeweler's screwdriver or other similar small tool to depress the locling clips on the plastic shell. It takes less than 5 minutes to swap the connector shells once you remove or slide back all the rubber seals out of the way.

There is a red plastic insert in the pin side of the connector. Once you pry it out, then you can see the plastic locking arms that hold the electrical pins in place. Pry them down and the electrical contacts will slide out the rear of the connector shell.

FYI: all the Ford wiring connectors are like this and use a similar method to secure the pins in the plastic connector shells. Autozone has replacement electrical contacts for $5 a kit. The kit contains an assortment of pins, but not al lot of each kind. if you have a complex project, you might have to buy several kits. Standard Motor Parts makes similar electrical contact kits that are available from other auto parts stores.

yeah, i noticied the 88 only has the square maf connector. i didn't know I had one until a friend told me he bought a sensor from an 89-up and it didn't fit. I looked at the ones I had, sold it to him.

just for everyones info, the 88 california cars had a different maf connection than the 89 50 state cars. it is ok to change the connector to the new version. i learned this from my buddys 88 california coupe.

as long as the wires match in color, you can splice em but note the location

Why would you splice wires when it ie easier to pop the pins of of the original connector and stick them in the new one. I can have all 4 pins out and in the new connector in less time than it would take to one splice, solder & heat shrink one wire. Crimp on wire splices look ghetto and are not weather proof.

just saying i had to do that on my 95's IAC the other day using a 98 IAC and connector.
