Replacing aod tranny in a 93 lx 5.0 vert

I just got a 93 lx convertible 5.0 with the aod auto tranny. My problem is the tranny is bad it slips in every forward gear. It has new fluid and filter and everything is ok as far as that goes. So it looks like its time for a new tranny but after reading up on this aod tranny i dont want to put that type back in. Seems that it doesnt downshift very well and robs the cars power and isnt reliable. And i tend to believe that since the car i have is only 56000 miles and already has a bad tranny. So my question is. What is a good replacement for the aod? I just want something that will bolt right back in. And i dont want a manual in this car i need to keep it auto. Thanks

i think a c4 will work

I think the c4 lacks overdrive, so if you install any type of gears in the future the rpms will be screaming on the highway.

Not sure what your budget is, but there really isn't many good options for an automatic that will see normal street use.
A well built AOD is extremely expensive and seems people still blow them up.

If you really aren't going to do much with the car (i'll assume you don't with 56k on the clock) you may just want to get yours rebuilt or get a junkyard unit.

Some of the other companies out there are lentech and Performance Automatic.
See if they have something you like.

I just got the car a week ago its been sitting in my friends garage for 7 or 8 years. A c4 would be fine im not going to put any gears in it i already have a 92 GT with all that done. I just want a good solid trans to put in it and not worry about. Ive had many a c4 and never had issues with them. I will check out those 2 places thankyou for the help guys.

You can get a used AOD in good condition for a more than reasonable price. I agree it's a sucky tranny.

I agree, that's why i mentioned getting a junkyard transmission.
A 56k car is kinda hard to come by these days, i know if i looked at one to buy and it had a c4, i'd certainly walk away.

IMO, get a converter and a shift kit for the stock replacement trans, It will free up some power and the shift kit actually entends the lift of the trans due to less slippage.

Anyone ever used one of these AOD super streeter trannys from performance automatic? Are they as good as they sound or is it just another aod tranny that will go out on me.
