this doesn't seem to be getting much attention in tech, so maybe one of you guys can help me

i've been tossing around the idea lately about throwing in a 6 point cage sometime after the summer, i would weld it in, however there might be a chance that i want to return this car back to stock, so i want to just bolt it in for now. my question is; how do these things go in, and bteer yet, how can i keep my carpet. the only way i can think of is to maybe test fit the cage in there, and mark the mounting locations, then pull it back out and cut a slit in the carpet so the little plate can just fit right under there. is this how you do it, or is there a more competent (sp?) way of doing it. oh, and does anyone have that MM cage, and if so, it doesn't come yellow does it.

cages suck... getting in and out of the car is rediculous, and the seats dont recline anymore. Dont get a cage until the track kicks you out on a weekly basis. If you get a bolt in cage you could probably get creative and install it above the carpet, but if your going to go through the hassle, you may as well install it right and cut the carpet to look decent going around the cage. As for the maxim motorsport cages, I think they come black.. but dont quote me on it. let us know what ya end up doing...

exactly lol i think it'd be cool having to step over a cage all the time. it'd also add a decent amount of stiffness to the car....but i was thinking of it mostly for the cool factor...lol oh well, i guess it was just a little fantasy i had.

haha, yea man, its personal preference. i think we have all been there. I know I started to put one in my car a while back, after I got tired of getting sent back to tech, enough times. I was thinking how sweet it would look at night seeing the bars and all the gauges through the back window.. Then i rode in a friend of mines with a cage once... and that was the last time I had that though again.. F' it.. kick my ass out the track.. cages are for 9's and lower. though if i ever make it there, I will probably find yet another excuse.. Lol

Anything under mid 11's requires a cage if I'm not mistaken. It's probably changed since I last checked.

Back on topic: A 6 point cage really isn't all that big of a deal. I had one in a notch. The only bitch was getting in the back seat, but if you're putting in a cage, you won't need the back seat most likely. As for stepping over it to get it: You'll probably think it's awesome (I did), but the girls (specifically the one I was dating at the time) hated it.

Why not get one with swing out door bars?

Cages look cool, they suck for a driver. My brothers new daily driver has a cage and its annoying. My dads 91 does as well, again annoying.

Cage should come not painted at all. Ours came in regular steel, no paint or anything!

well whats the deal when i see the very back two point's going through the rear interior plastics. lol how the hell does everyone know where to mark, and better yet, how do you bolt or weld the plate on with that big ass plastic thing in the way. may seem like a stupid question but it's been something thats been bothering me for a while

I've been told that safety is an issue with a DD equiped with a cage. You have to willing to go with a racing harness and seat at the least otherwise they can be complete safety hazards.

Remember a stock seat and belt setup wasn't designed to keep you from hitting door bars. Plus bars are designed w/ the idea that the driver will be wearing a helmet. Your head snaps back into the loop cause the stock 3 point belt didn't hold you right and you weren't wearing a helmet its gonna leave a mark.

I figure its like getting struck upside the head with an aluminum bat.

I too wanted a cage cause the backseat area of my car was butchered. Figured it would help make the car looked modded and not stupid. But the safety concerns have me worried.

i have a 4 point cage in my daily and love it. i also run 4pt harnesses as well. im in the process of learning how to build full cages so mine will be full soon. after close friends getting into accidents and flipping their cars and barely surviving i have become really big on saftey. so what i have to buckle a few straps and step into my car funny.... if i get hit or roll my car i have a better chance at surviving. thats all i care about. check maximummotorsports...i think they have a bolt in cage with door bars that slide out. pretty cool from what i remember

12 point here and street car well weekend street car..lol A 6 pt cage is good for a solid chassis but you have to do it all IMHO to get the full effect. upper and lower, torque boxes, sperical bushings, anti-roll bar(low ten sec car) or panhard bar, sub frames, welded axle tubes, good shocks,struts,s[rings,etc. It's a package deal
