Routing P/S Hoses to Borgeson Box

The Borgeson box install on my 68 went well and I can't believe the difference in the way the car drives. True night & day difference. The only thing I don't like is the way the hoses route across the inner fender. It looks terrible and also I get some vibration from the hoses at low speeds when turning lock to lock. How have others routed their hoses for this install? If you have it looking good, please post a picture. Thanks,

I have made hard lines that run from my box thru the shock tower to the side of the tower nearest to the power steering pump and will have very short flex lines from the tower to the pump. I am currently traveling and do not have any pictures available to send, but when I get home in a couple of weeks I will post them.

I came to the conclusion that I would have to get hoses made. It came out pretty good routing through the stock bracket. I may have to modify the rubber in the bracket a bit to get more header clearance, but looks much better. I'm not sure why Borgeson didn't do a bit more R&D on the hoses. For $80 you'd think they would look halfway decent.

Are you having any issues at low RPM using the OEM style Ford pump? What's your idle speed?

It is slightly harder steering at idle, but not a whole lot different from stock P/S. My idle RPM in drive is about 600. I had considered buying the new pump, but glad I didn't invest the $s. The only reason I see for getting the Borgeson pump is if you like the looks. To some this mod up:
- Road feel, handling, overall driving enjoyment quantum leap improvement
- Cost was pretty cheap @ $600 for the box & rag joint (don't buy hoses)
- Custom made hoses are another $150 - $200 depending how you go
- Install is much like replacing your existing box
- Getting rid of all that leaky, vague, problem prone stock P/S is priceless

If your considering this mod and are on the fence, do it!

Do you have any free play in your steering after the swap. I installed a borgeson box on my 68 and replaced all of the steering components as well, only to find that there is some slop in this new box. If I turn the steering wheel there is some free play, before the pitman arm moves. I called Borgeson about this and they couldn't give me an answer if this was how their product was supposed to be. They recommended that I tighten the adjustment screw on the box a 1/4 turn, which I did, but it is still the same.

I also had to have a new pressure hose made for this swap.

There is still some free play, but it is very minimal compared with the stock set up. It is not R&P, but way better than before. My take is that this is a very good middle of the road mod for those of us that want problem free P/S with better than stock feel.

I haven’t tried to adjust the box as it drives fine. Let us know if you find out how to change the Borgeson factory settings.
