Running Hot after new TFS intake install???

Hey Guys I just put on a new Trick Flow Track Heat intake and replaced the temperature sending unit on the lower, put a new thermostat in and a new radiator cap. Filled it with coolant and now it is running almost to the last notch. I have a new radiator a new electric fan, new hoses??? It wasnt getting hot before I put on the new intake? I cant figure it out????

make sure you have enough water and there is no air in the system.

make sure the thermostate is not upside down.

and it might be your gauge. so check and make sure its connected properly and securely.

its a common mistake to put the t-stat in backwards cause your almost done and get anxious to crank it up and drive it!

Doesn't a backwards T-stat make it run cold? .... did on my last 2 heh .. pulled both those damn motors apart and the stat was backwards. Also did have the problem of air bubbles in the system that took a while to work out .. have you rechecked you coolant level and stuff to make sure it didn't take a big gulp?

I put it in like the haynes manual said with the spring toward the manifold...? Is that the correct way? It is getting air bubbles also? I don't know what the next step is?

I have ran it with the cap off until it heats up and overflows then I make sure and keep adding water? If someone knows the best way let me know. Before the intake swap it ran nice and cool.

I've heard alot of people just jack the front end of the car up a fair amount so all the air bubbles head to the highest point (radiator) and then run it that way to work air bubbles out .. I can't vouch as to how well this works, I normally just topped it off and then went out for short test drives to work out the bubbles (if you do it this way I'd at least bring some water with ya was a couple miles from home and she took a big gulp, bout maxed my temp)

If I just drain it all then refill will that work? Is the thermostat in correctly if the spring is facing the engine?

I ususally burp the system but filling it, letting it get warm, then cracking one of the heater hoses off the heater core. Since those hoses are the highest point, any air in the block will usually come out. If you get water up there coming out. It's bled, reconnect it, and you should be good to go.

Yep, spring faces the engine

Let all the air escape as much as possible. Watch it open (water 'drains' into the engine) and close a few times, then cap it off once the radiator is full.

Go buy the vacuum fill kit. Works great and gets almost all the air out. I think they run about $20

I usually drill a small hole in the thermostat at the top of it so that when you start filling it with water, it can leak past the thermostat and you won't have any air. It's not a big enough hole to affect normal operation.

There is a bleeder valve on the top of the t-stat... If there is air in there how will that make it get hot? I backed down my driveway and ran it till it got hot and overflowed then filled it up again and again would that not have gotten all of the air out?

loosen the water temp sending unit until the air gets burped out. also loosen that one of the thermostat to make sure

I have always filled my car's up at idle, and keep filling water in as the t-stat opens up. I watch the temp. guage until it levels out.

No, that is not necessary. I'm curious to why you are having issues...

Where are you located at in Arkansas?

Fayetteville/Springdale area?

I'm up there every few weeks or so

why not go get another t-stat????
prolly made in china and its prolly a POS!@
this aint tooo complex. its a ford v8, taking water is usually not an issue.

is the upper hose hot? if not then the t-stat is not opening.

(could have swaped the t-stat in the amount of time it took to start this thread)
