on some vehicles (especialy late model reverse cooling, and some 4 cylinder engines) air gets traped in the engine and has to be purged before the engine can fill with water. I have never saw this problem with a conventional v8

So should I go buy yet another tstat and then what else could it be?

did you trim your intake gaskets so they matched the coolant ports on the heads? what heads are on it?

I still have the stock E7s on it... The gaskets fit nicely.

Hey red,

Did you trim the coolant gasket around the coolant ports. The design is so, where it protrudes into the coolant passages at the end of the heads.

Basically, did you trim anywhere on the gasket before you installed it? Did you install a FPP-1250?

I dont know what the part # is, I already threw the box away. I didn't trim anything, it looked good.

If you could find out the part number, that would be beneficial. Just back track how you got the gasket and where you got it from

The 5.0L lower intake gaskets that I am aware of have a coolant port protrusion that 'rides' over the coolant passages.

Does anyone have a picture readily available for redfox91 to see?

It can obstruct flow fairly significantly. It is designed for 351 heads if I recall...

just a thought- i recently replaced my water temp sending unit to a new one from napa.... it was WAY off! it read over 50 degrees hotter than my old one...i changed it back to my old one, and it read perfect again so i had a bad sending unit.

I did put a new sending unit on from oreilly... I wondered about that but I threw my old one away... I wonder if I shouldnt try a new one since they are so cheap?
