Running rich,miss,3k&-..WTF

My Car (1987 mustang 2.3L)seems to still getting worst, since the time I've swap my 2.3n/a back in(still have the '86 TC wiring & computer setup), my car got little miss at idle, but I can deal with it, but since a week or so,the idle is even worst, not steady at all.., at every red light, or every stop, my car stalls, and she's running so rich.. it's crazy, if I'm parked, and I give some shot of gas, and check behind my exhaust tip, we can see a big black mark on the ground..

I've changed : rotor, cap distributor,wires, sparkplugs(4),coil,tps,clean IAC..

I've taken the code, and my computer throw me the code #66 which is "No mass air flow sensor signal" But wtf, I don't have any MAF, and '86 TC doesn't have any (I think at least).

I've tried to play with the ignition timing, but now it is at the better place it could be.. and still have these problem..

And I couldn't go further than 3000rpm, and I can floor it, and if I do it, my car miss bad, and stop accelereting, and few second after I release the gas pedal, it will stink.. some sort of smell..

Any idea/help will be appreciated!!

Sounds like a computer mismatch.

The TC uses a vane meter, and the computer needs an airflow signal, just like a maf car. The 87 should be a speed density map sensor based system. That may be the same code being used.

Try using the na computer. May need to check to see exactly what signal should be on each wire or pin first.

In the month I have had a 2.3, I have found more variations in computer wiring from 87 to 91 and such than 5.0 cars had in their entire run.

My 85 even has an EEC4 to run the feedback carb.
 
You can run a turbo computer on an NA. I did for years.
Have you checked the fuel pressure? A bad regulator could do that. Make sure there is no fuel in the vacume line going to the fuel pressure regulator. That is a sure sign of a bad regulator.
Also, you had the car running well with this computer before, right? You have the correct VAM and injectors matched up and it was repinned I assume?
 
my car does this a little to. it's chilled a little on the stalling, but I think I have my problem tuned down to leaky injectors. Because occasionally it will start very rough, cut off, then run as a 3 cyl for a minute till (I think) it got enough gas pumped out of the cylinder to be able to get close to a combustable mixture (or maybe unfouwl the plug?) regulator sounds theasable to me as well, I think I'll check mine out in the morning. will let you know how new injectors do me in a few days...

I have the Vam plugged, 35lbs injectors. What should be a normal fuel pressure? And where is this regulator? on the fuel rail?

And is it the same on 2.3n/a & 2.3T?
 
well the turbo cars run at (or should run at) 39 PSI with the vacuum line off of the FPR. but since u converted back to n/a im not sure. i never checked mine when i had the n/a in. the fuel pressure regulator is on the rail and if u need another one get one for a 80's and early 90's 5.0L. they all fit the same.

yup, NA and turbo got the same fuel pressure regulator. Even the 5.0s have the same one if you start looking to get an adjustable regulator.
The regulator is attached to the fuel rail. It is underneath the upper intake and has a vacume line going to it from the upper intake. check that line for fuel.
By saying, "the VAM is plugged", that means you the VAM is plugged in and functional, right? You should be sucking all the air the engine gets through the VAM, and it should be pointed the correct direction too. :p

Hmmm I mean that all the wires are connected to the right places.. :)

And it is functionning :) Sorry for the mistake.. hehe
