Has anyone ever had to replace the rear section of roofline where it meets the hatch due to rust / rot? I can get a replacement patch panel no problem but Im wondering if its something best left to professionals. Ive never seen what the roof metal looks like. Isnt there foam underneath the top layer of metal? I think I heard that somewhere.

I had rot there on my '85, patch welded it, ground it down, filled low spots, primered and moved on. You WILL have to remove your headliner and insulation, or you're going to have a fire. Plus, welding with any interior components underneath the work area is not a good idea (seats will have holes melted through, carpet will burn, etc.). So, if you're handy with a low power welder (so as to not burn through the sheetmetal, and you are so inclined, it is totally do-able, but there are precautions you need to employ prior to work.

Can you tell me where you can get this replacement panel?
Mine is rotted right through, so as the roof line metal seperated from the hatch side. Not good.
I've been holding off fixing it due to the cost of having it done on a 20 year old car.

LX 302, there arent any places offering patch panels but I found a local junk yard willing to do the cut to my specs and also Mustangs Unlimited out of GA will too. I was hoping to get it done over the winter but my garage storage fell through so now its going to have to wait. I havent even had the chance to pull down the trim and headliner and see how bad it really is. All I can see is where it came through on the pass side and is bubbling across to the drivers side.

buy a cheap parts car, every town has at least 1 guaranteed..and cut the panel from that, plus you got a whole car to take parts from
