Where's Eades? He's making some awesome power, but I dont know about his emissions.

He'll be here!!

Eades is making awesome power, but he does not post anymore. R.J.do a search and see if you can find any of eades5.0 old threads. He has a real nice 331 with a s-trim.

Even a S/C 306 but for a little more money a 331 would make the 450-500 hp mark easier and with less strain. FTI is 20 min from where I live so I know if it is all about the cam to get it to pass, ED can make it happen. The short blocks are only 500$ diff at CHP.

Eades sig says he is from AZ, so he did not have to pass emissions.

No we have emissions out here, but his car isn't registered here so no he doesn't have to pass. He doesnt have a smog pump or egr and of course no cats. There should not be a problem with making 450-500 to the wheels with a 331 and S/C. The snow kit will be your best friend and getting there too. Have you firgured out what heads you want to run?

I want to do a 306 or 331 with a V-2, AFR 185's, TFS-R or Performer RPM intake, FTI cam but my plans don't really matter if I can't pass emissions. I might just stick with a strong 306 (CHP pro street fighter)and settle for what ever the above combo makes for power. It seems like a lot more guys are running 306's and emissions are not an issue.

You can pass emissions just fine with the right cam. Let your cam grinder know it must pass emissions. I'd hope your building this stroker out of a dart block? Stock block is a HUGE risk if your gonna be beating on it.

Why spend 500 extra dollars on a 331, if the block is the limit. a 306 will make enough power supercharged to crack the block, so keep it affordable until you can get a Boss block or an aftermarket block. Then put the expensive crank and rods in it.
I KNOW the TFS-R is not legal in California, and not sure about the Performer RPM. Do you have a visual requirement where you are?
Everything I have used so far has a California E.O. I'll have to smog it in October, so we'll see how it goes...
It's a 306 w/ HCI, V-2SQ, etc.....

Mackey: It will be tuned, that is no the issue. I am looking for opinions on what to do not how to do. When I figure out what sey up I want i will make sure every thing is done right and aal the parts can handle the power I am making. thanks
A50SN95: how much power do you make? thanks

I know you guys are asking about supercharged 331's but I thought I would chime in anyway. I have a 331 (1993 gt block), eagle rotating assembly with srp 10.8:1 flat tops pistons. I ran a 150-200hp single nozzle fogger system and had no problems or concerns about breaking the block. If the revs are low enough and harmonics are pretty well taken care of the block should last for a while. I also have a main girdle on mine. However, I know that with a blower there is alot more stress put on the snout of the crank...so if you have a really strong crank and a weak block the mains might let go on you...once again, it ultimately depends on the boost level and engine load/RPM's. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah DART block, unless you want Two 4 cylander blocks.
Cracked @ 570 rwhp w/ fast stand alone system, so the tune was not the issue.
jUst as long as your tune is right and all your SmOG equip is working you will have no issues passing the sniffer. good luck

Ok maybe I’m setting my goals a little backwards. I should be thinking money instead of power. It is way too much money to buy and build dart or an R block. I am thinking a CHP 306 or 331 and I guess I’ll set my power goals to what ever won’t kill a CHP street fighter (cast steel crank, Forged rods, main girdle).
Now I know it are just advertisement but CHP sells “Dynotec Long blocks” with a N/A 306 at 460hp/400tq and a blown 331 at 520hp/425tq.

Now on this note I’m looking for opinions on what CHP might be thinking, building an over 500 hp blown 331 out of a race prepped stock 302 block and advertising and selling them this way? Have they squeezed ever bit of power out of the motors and don’t care if they break in half the first time you red line them? Or is it safe to say that there 306/331 can safely handle the power that they sell their long block at? I am not asking these questions to down anybody’s previous “block splitting opinions“, these are serious questions!
So if I were to split the difference with CHP’s claims and built a 400-450hp street fighter 331, with out totally beating the piss out of it (occasional 5000-5500 rpm shifts), the motor should last?!?! Thanks

This is a great option, and I almost would rather do a N/A347. The problem is emissions, even with CHP's 347e (emissions legal 347) they say right at 400hp emissions become questionable. with a S/C 306/331 the cam would not have to be as big to make power. The 347 would need a big cam and kill emissions! Unless there are people who can vouch for over 400 hp 347's passing emissions. Then I would talk one on one with them and see what I could do. That is exactally what I am looking for, peoples experiences and opinions. I really want to see what people think about CHP selling their long blocks rated at that much power?
