My new motor has a little more go than I expected, and almost as much as I had hoped for. :p

Well I'm not feeling so great with the lap belts and my face eating the steering wheel. I've driven cars with a lot more power, but they've been 8pt+ cage cars with full harnesses.

I need suggestions on making my car safe, on a budget. I'm not looking for anything more than a six point, and if I can get away with a simple 4 point to mount harnesses onto, I'd like this.

Car should go high 11's on motor and mid 10's on the spray. It's a 70 Coupe.

you can use a four point cage to bolt shoulder belts to. unless you are going racing though, you shouldnt need more than a three point harness like you would find in newer cars.

Mid 10s=120+ mph. I'd want more than a 3 point stock type seatbelt at that speed. I would read a rule book or you will only get one trip down the strip before you are banned. Legal roll bar kits are not much money, but install might be depending on if you know how to weld or have a buddy.

I think that at 100 mph or 120 mph, the end result on a 3 point harness would be the same.

But he will be going 100 mph at half track. A lot more can go wrong in a 10 second car than a 13 second car. What is scary for me is that I can touch the windshield with my fore head with the seat all the way back and the stock lap belt on. I have not been to the track yet, but just driving on the street at city speed could be bad if I came to a rapid stop.

I'm not really sure you can consider the 70's stock shoulder belt a 3 point.

I don't trust the shoulder harness on the 70, nor do I trust the structural integrity of the roof to save me if something bad happens.

Anyone sell a nice setup that fits relatively well?

i would go with a 6pt cage welded in. Not a bolt together bolt in cage, because those dont protect you. Then install some race spec harnesses and you will have a mild/ safe setup to go have some fun with.

Good point about the track rules. Speed will determine the set up required by the rule book and what is needed to protect your butt.

My car has a pretty good 6 point cage, Simpson 5-points and window net. Pretty comfortable at most tracks but Daytona, Lowes and Atlanta were a totally new experience. In a tin can called the Early Model Mustang nothing will totally protect you at 145 MPH.
