I have the 2 sets and I also had to take the upper intake off as they were wedged behind the it.

3 questions,
can I remove the extra set ?
dont they attach anywhere as opposed to just laying behind the intake ?
can I get away with using the upper intake gasket over again ?

1. Why would you have an extra set?

2. Normally they would be attached to the firewall with a plastic clip.

3. No. I wouldn't.

I have read that the extra set was due to a ford recall from back in the day. something about there not being enough slack causing the pins to lose continuity.

They attach to the upper intake with a plastic clip but you can tuck them out of the way. You really need a new gasket.

its not an extra "set", its just an extension, which didnt really solve the pin connection problems that they were added to fix. theres a good bit of info in the surging idle thread (iirc, i know its around here somewhere) about making sure they connect up right, and how to tweak them if youre having issues.

and like said above, theres a kind of bracket on the stock upper they attach too, but they can just tuck back behind the intake with no real problems.

Remove the extension, clean and regressed the connections and just tuck them down
