Miami, Ok
should they both feel about the same? or is it possible for one to "feel" faster.
A friend of mine has a 5.0 and he is running 13.5s with a vortech SC

Now if build a up a N/A motor to run 13.5s, it should feel the same right?? hp is hp and tq is tq right???

No they wont unless they have the same power curve. The feeling of fast comes from a building power band. A bigger motor with a huge power cure will feel slower because it makes the same power everywhere as apposed to building up to it. Make sense? A turbo or centrifugul S/C car should feel faster than a roots blower car or a big motor n/a car

Lots of things effect how "fast" a car feels....different tires, suspension, and seats are big parts of it. A car with stiff suspension, plastic seats, no sound deadening, and loud exhaust may feel faster than a car that runs the same times.

A friend of mine has a S-10 with a 526 cubic inch Cadiallac engine in it. Runs easy 11.70's spining the tires past half track (still chasing a traction demon). Now when you ride in that truck it's like riding in a big car. There is no concept of speed. All of a sudden you realize you're going 100 mph and you're like 'WTF?!?! How did I get to 100 so fast?'

Now ride in a Mustang that runs 11.70's and you know how you got to 100 so fast.

Two VERY different feelings.

Why is your friend only running mid 13's with a supercharger?

Supercharged 13 second cars usually feel way faster because of the late spooing and the kick in the ass when the boost comes in, since the motor doesnt have all that much balls on its own. All motor cars usually build power much smoother and lower RPMS so they wont feel as fast. As power levels get higher than the 13's this all changes but as far as what I've seen thats how it is for your typical street/strip 13 second setup.

Yeah I agree, I took a ride in a 347 10.8 sec 5.0 the other day, and I expected to be planted in the seat, but I was let down a little, but then I look at the speedo, and like nothing its burried at 140, I was flipping out, lol.

It was N/A btw, smooth power curve.

To give you an idea, me and my friends cars are similar (based off his street racing record) and my car feels faster. The funny thing is he has a much more stout combo...

Him: 331, AFR185s, ported Cobra intake, cam, all the bolt ons.

Me: Stock motor, stock heads with valves, Cobra intake, stock cam, and bolt ons.

Its all about the curve, weight of the car, etc... SOTP means nothing really unless thats what your going for!

I really concerned about sotp, i love being sucked back.
I mean the fastest car i've been in is that 13.5 SCed 5.0
I mean i was like "shi*" it blew me away.

I hoping to have a 250-270 rwhp N/A car when i'm done, i think it will suit my needs.

Also what do you guys mean exactly by "a building up powerband"?
Like not having a stall to accomodate a higher range cam??
It will be slow then start pulling?
