school me on the BBK SSI intake...who's running this thing

im thinking of giving this thing a shot since im going to be building a motor soon. i was just wondering who has it, and how they like it and how easy it went on. or, just any pother info on it would be great too. thanks guys.

The intake has some real strong points like flow rates and the power increase. I also really like the idea of pullin valve covers without having to remove the upper intake. I have heard of pcv issues though and something to the effect of the intake suckin up oil. I dont remember the specifics but from what I got out of it the intake works better in theory then in practice. Its still a fairly new design though. Its a split port design unlike the "pizza box" box style ie holley, tfs, eddy. If your building a stroker id give the edelbrock rpm2 a real hard look. I have the tfs street but I only have a 310 ci h/c/i motor.

i have it on my 87 wiht a 347 crate motor in it havnt gotten it tuned yet due tot he fact that i am also going to change my heads but its on there with the heads i have now and even wiht out the tune i can tell a huge dif in performance over the saleen vortech intake i had on there b4 also changed tb from a 70- 75mm

I`d stay away from it.

So I have heard unfortunately.. It looks like a really nice and unique piece... And like stated above, the look and the ability to remove the valve covers is a huge bonus.

Do tell... don't leave me hanging. From the looks I can tell you it's not very smooth on the inside, but I see no blemishes or cracks or nothing to prevent me from enjoying my new toy

If you know of a problem though LET ME KNOW before I install it!!!

I have installed 3 of those intakes and no problems with fit or quality of product. I have installed them all in the last 12 months so if the early units had problems not sure. 2 of the cars are Supercharger @ 10psi+ and I never heard them having a problem.

right on, thanks for the info guys... still don't know if i want to go with it though. even though pulling the valve covers without yanking the upper intake does sound pretty tantalizing.

Maybe yours is ok ,I can just go by what I`ve read in tech forums.
Going by memory one guy posted pics of one leaking coolant right through the lower casting and complained about the fuel injector and fuel rail holes being off.

One guy said his throttle body would not go on because the mounting studs were not drilled in the right position.

And they appear to have problems sucking too much oil up the PCV.

yeah i had to send my first one back it had all kindsa holes in the lower intake 3 to be exact and didnt have the fuel rail or the tb problem but onc ei sent the 1st intake back the second one i got was fine and i heard mine was one of the first off the assembly line i orderd it way in advanced so it may have ben caught and fixed

I don't like the intake. It looks pretty cool, but I don't like all the 90 degree bends the airflow has to make.

Yeah but it looks so schweet. I think it's the best lookin intake on the market for sure, and I think one of the mags posted good gains wiith it.

Majority of intakebrands will have quality issues to some degree, several have had problems with the china made products...I had more than excellent results with my typhoon. Hell I sold my RPM intake for my typhoon intake simply because I had a piss poor casting from Edelbrock..it happens, and I continue to purchase from them. The BBK like all the others is a nice peice, it will look different, work nicely.

i think they look cool to, but i always have liked the look of the GT40 intakes. they look good when polished or chromed.

Agreed. I for one didn't purchase it because of the looks... well not totally. I've just read great reviews on it and wanted something different.

I spent so much extra to get Ford Racing everything, but I wanted to be different as far as the intake. Everyone has a Cobra or GT40 or an aftermarket version of those, so I bought this one since it's up to par with the best and different than stock.

I don't know when I'll get it all put on, but expect a dyno when I finish.
