SEFI 5.0?? What needs to be changed to drop it into a fox?

1987 Cougar 5.0 What needs to be changed?

This is some urgently needed info, will this motor work in a fox? or what needs to be swapped? I'm being given a parts car that has a good running 302 but its a 1987 cougar and i'm not sure if it will be just a drag and drop procedure or if I will have to modify anything or change anything.... I was reading somewhere that the cougars only used 15lb injectors and the stock mustang computer is programed to run on 19lb. So basicly I just want my stang running so any info or documents you people have would be great!

Is this mustang already a v8? if so all you need to do is drop the engine in and change the intake and injectors. Thats pretty much it. I dont know if the non H.O. 5.0's used the same intake as the H.O. The heads will be the same.

if the car is a 8cyl now, i think all you have to do is remove the intake and replace with the fox body setup, i think the non- mustang 5.0 cars the intake setup is towards the drivers side as to where the mustang is from the passenger side. dont really know what elec. parts or fuel parts need to be swapped.

The intake can be flipped around, no big deal.

'87 cougar is a non-HO 5.0. It makes about 150HP and really sucks. You sure you want to use this motor? The firing order is the NON-351 firing order, the heads are E6's, the intake is small, the injectors are 14#ers and its just not a performance motor.

You'd be better off selling it and getting a 5.0 HO out of a Mark 7 if you can find one

so the 89 v8
computer will work just fine?? or will i have to change the injector fireing order?

I would take the engine from the thunderbird remove the heads and cam. Then take the heads and cam off your engine and install on new engine. If you need a valve job then do so or go on ebay and buy a used set of E7's. The computer will work.

luckly I have a spare set of E7's but I don't have a stock cam

I never realized that jumping the pins on the connectors would create so many problems. Makes sense though and I never thought about it. Great info. How do you get the computer re-programed to run a non-HO motor though ??

I dont understand where the problem is with a computer. All you need to do is get the block from the t-bird and put your heads and cam in it. The block itself is the same. If you were to leave the t-bird cam in then yes there would be a problem. Just change the cam.

A trip to the Mustang graveyard...

Seriously, just replace the computer. It would be cheaper and work better. A chip would be probably $100, which is in the price range of a j/y replacment computer.

just so I'm clear the HO Crank is the same as the standard crank but the Cam is affecting the firing order? If All i need to do is swap a cam, I'll leave the stock heads Change the cam and upper intake and run it like that until I get my e7's rebuilt.

I do have a standard 5.0 computer and also an HO computer. The cougar engine comes complete with the whole car lol
