Hi I have 1967 Mustang coupe with a 289 in it. I have heard about the shelby drop. I like to know if its to hard to do and does it really make a difference in every day driving? Does it require alot of work and what parts will I need to accomplish doing it? Is it expensive to do? And is it worth actually doing it. All opinions welcome, Thank You for your help!!!

The Shelby drop is supposed to correct faulty suspension geometry. Its not hard to do( I did it to my car, but it's a shell), you need to disassemble pretty much your whole upper suspension, to get a straight shot at drilling the wholes one inch below stock mount points. You can get templates online which you can print out and use to mark to correct spots to drill. I purchased TCP's metal Shelby drop templates, because I dont care for paper templates. So if you use a paper template, and you half a 1/2 metal bit, and the require sockets to dissasemble everything, it will cost you nothing but time to do. Though you will prob have to get the car realigned. I know alot of people do it here on stangnet. Everyone I know personally who has a classic mustang, that is modified has done it to their mustang. Though I cant tell you if it made a differance, due to the fact every car I personally know with it done is have a motor being built for it.

But for daily driving your car may be just fine as it is. Though I would like the security if you will of knowing, that my suspension tracks better then it used to stock.

Is it a lot of work? IMHO, No it is a straightforward job. Unbolt, drill, reattach, realign, and drive.

Is it worth it? Not so much on the 67 and later car as FORD corrected several flaws in the geometry of the front suspension. However, it will help for aggressive driving. On the 66 and before I would say it is mandatory for a good handling car

Is it expensive? It will cost you the price of a drill bit some WD40” insert favorite brand here”, time and a new alignment to the correct specs for the Shelby drop. This is different from stock and you must tell them what you want when having it aligned.

this might be a little off topic but, if i do th e drop on my 68 coupe will it allow more backspacing on a 17in wheel. I have heard that it will but I dont know for sure...

I would do it on even a daily driver, it makes that much of a difference. I think it took me about 3 hours of casual work to do both sides. I did mine before I installed a larger sway bar and was really surprised at how much flatter the car cornered.

The drop is not going to help your 60' times as weight transfer will be slowed down.
Probably the only real draw back...

But then I've found being able to turn my car while doing 110 mph on a track is more fun that just doing 110 mph in a straight line at the track.

Even so, I've still been able to cut a 2.0 6.0' time on street tires with the upper arm drop. Not impressive, but respectible IMO
