My brother has a 90' LK vert that is an automatic and he would like to make it alil faster. I thought one of the best things to do was to put in a shift kit, but im not sure which one to use and where to find it. Anyone know of a good one to use and where to find it?

Thanks,
Shane.

Put a gear in it. That will really wake up an AOD car. The only shift kit that I think would make a real difference are the ones that change the shift pattern so you dont have to do the one-dee-one shuffle. Not sure whats all involved in those though.

TransGo or Baumann Engineering. Do some rearend gears along with it and you'll notice a diff.

Top 5 mods in no particular order
1) gears
2) shift kit
3) converter
4) heads
5) exhaust
If you have a 5 speed, you get to save some cash and eliminate 2 items.

If you go for transgo on the shift kit, make super sure to leave out the 3-4 shift valve modifications.....well, unless you like getting dumped into OD while trying to accelerate. They say it's a "feature" of their kits but I think anyone that drops into OD while at WOT is asking for breakage. You can feel the hit.

Yep, thats what happened to my Trashgo while using nitrous. Burned a new OD band after one month. Now I just have 3 gears, but thats better for me at the track, but not on gas while cruising the highway. Shifting into OD really messes up your ET. Stay away from Trashgo!!!

How old is the tranny and how many miles. If it's the original 15 year old tranny I would just keep the fluid clean (flush), maby a new filter and add a good trans cooler such as the B&M Supercooler. It seems when people put shift kits on old AOD(E)s it pushes them over the edge. Maby not right away but sooner more than later. I'd do a stall before a shift kit. You might be suprised how a trans cooler improves shift quality. Oh yeah, if no gear I wouldn't even be considering anything else.

Your all saying to get a gear. I have been reading that in my brothers car the rear end should be a 2.73 ratio. But someone else is telling me it should be a 3.08 or a 3.27. Do any of you know what should be in this car? And is there a way to look at maybe the sticker on the inside door to find out?

Also, what ratio do you guys suggest? 3.73, 4.10?

Thanks,
Shane.

Look at the tag on the axle pumpkin cover. Should have something something 73 or something something 08.

They need to get switched either way to a nice heathy 4.10. I used to have 3.73's and I found them to be not enough. Lots of pep but not enough to whip you into the seat. I chose to go with 4.56's and wow. That really slams you into the seat. Pulls about 3k on the highway at 80mph though but oil and coolant temps look ok so I figure the little 302's can take it.

gears will wake up the car like no tomorrow, it will make you use curse words in joy.....

I havent expierenced it yet, but my friend has an s trim mustang with 3.90s and he says of all the mods he does, he has new rearend, tranny work sc etc.
the gears made the BIGGEST difference on how much it throws you in the seat...
