First off... my chip already had increased line pressure (same as what the handheld tuners do) but the Transgo has dramatically improved the 4R70W - more so than the line pressure which is still raised by my chip. For how cheap this mod was, I cant believe I waited this long. I cant recommend it enough to the auto guys. All aspects of the tranny seem to have improved.

The headers improved the sound of the car especially at low rpms, and the drone is gone at 2000rpm. I cant tell if I made any more power yet because it hasnt stopped raining! As soon as it does I'll rip it up. A dyno will follow soon.

Replaced my front H&R SS springs with Roush springs... Now the car sits level instead of the ridiculous rake I had before, and hopefully I wont ground out anymore.

My car was in the shop for weeks. So glad to have her back! :D

why didnt you choose the Jmod instead?

Because theres a lot of confusion about which holes to change for which years etc. Plus, the Transgo comes with a bunch of upgraded parts and even adds a pressure relief valve for extra safety. My mechanic (insane drag racer nut) has tons of exp with the 4R70W. He installs mulitple brands but put the same in his truck. The instructions were well written also.

I'm convinced that most of the shift kit related tranny problems are from botched installs. Thats even more likely to happen with the J mod considering I could never find instructions less vague than the tccoa ones.

I'm VERY happy with it! :D

Shift kits make a huge difference and as expensive as autos are, you were smart to buy a kit. The headers will show a gain too. Feels good to get some stuff done - congrats!

I had a TransGo and cooler installed a few thousand miles ago and for me it really complimented the 3.73's.

Months later I installed the Diablo SW and their stock setting for the line pressure seemed to soften the shifts ('Diable' SW, not 'modified stock' SW). I bumped up the pressure with the Diablo and now the shifts are firm again, like before when it was with just the TransGo.

I'm using:
TransGo shift kit
AmsOil ATF
Steeda tranny cooler
Diablo w/ pressure increased

If anyone know for sure that increassing the pressure with the TransGo installed is harder on the tranny please jump in.

red35th, why the wariness with the increased line pressure and shift kit ?

I'm just wary to put that much pressure in the trans. Also, for what it's worth, I've read over at modulardepot that it's an either or game, both is not a great idea. My fears may well be unfounded, hopefully someone who knows more will pop-on.

Which setting did they drill the TransGo to? I have no.2 and I wouldn't want the shifts any firmer anyhow.

Like I said hopefully someone will pop-on and confirm if doing both is safe longevity wise for the auto.

I mentioned the same thing to my mechanic - should I run the higher line pressure with the shift kit. He said it was absolutely fine and recommended I leave it as is after he drove it. The shift kits themselves use various springs or spacers or something to change the line pressure to various levels (depending on how hard you want it to shift). Plus the transgo has the excess pressure valve if it was ever too high.

I really suspect the problems you hear of are from botched installs. Its not the kind of thing I'd install myself. Definately choose someone with experience.

You know, my wife has the exact same car as I do: '01 GT Premium Auto. Her tranny has a real lazy shift; while it was still under warranty I took it back to Ford, they took the car for about three days and gave it back to me saying pretty much 'It shifts, therefore it's fine.'

I installed my Predator into her car, adjusted the pressures and turned off the modulation and the shifts were still lazy!

Her car has an appointment in two weeks to get the TransGo, AmsOil ATF and cooler :flag:

As good as you feel about the shift-kit, get a looser converter now, you won't be sorry. I went with a percision industries 2800 it made a huge improvement in overall feel. It felt like a diffrent car from a dead stop, need drag radials for sure. I would advise all auto owners to check into getting a new converter. :D

I know what youre saying bu thats a far more expensive mod. One day I'll get one, but it seems like a lot to spend. I'd be tempted to save it toward the blower or get some cams installed for the same money. I dont drag though, so off-the-line performance is not top of my priorities.

Half a second in the quarter mile is worth the 750 bucks for the converter to me, :D that number is not just off their web-site it was tested in a past issue of 5.0 mag, they put in a 2800 stall in a stock 96 GT and cut the quarter mile by 5.7 tenths. If you want a big reduction in et, save some money for the stall it is WORTH IT. :nice:

I got a little dry road on the way home today. Car barks second real good and barks third nicely every time now. All good fun! Pulls pretty well. My SOTP meter really cant judge the difference from the headers because I havent driven the car in a month! I kinda feel like its got more mid range nuts but who knows. I'll get a new dyno soon. Either way the low rpm sound is way better!
