shorty x-pipe in CA

Hello everyone.
I'm new to this site and I know people here provide a lot of help with expertise and past experience.
My question is, I live in California and im planning on installing LM1 mufflers. I know I can't remove the stock cats, but my question is would I experience any sound change converting the stock H pipe to an X pipe right after the rear O2 sensors?
Or should I leave the stock H as it is and just go with the LM1s?
Im currently running cherry bomb extremes and I want something different and louder.
