Hey trying to get some advice about whether or not I should buy this 86 Mercury Capri RS White with grey trim, tan and grey interior, auto trany with 2500 stall, upper and lower hotchkis control arms. The car has some surface rust on the top of the roof and on the back deck lid the interior needs the dash pad replaced as most do and the drivers seat on the left side could be sewed up other than that this car is in great condition. The car comes with extra parts that the owner is throwing in from his other Capri… msd 6al box, blaster coil, t-5 transmission, clutch, Windsor heads, 302 heads, Eldebrock intake, carburetor, full exhaust system from hedmann, long tube headers. I talked to him yesterday on the phone and he said he would even give the the bottom end of a 331 in the other Capri.

He was asking for $3000 for the car and extra parts mentioned above, but has dropped it to $2500.

I dont claim to be a Capri expert but is that really an RS? That interior looks like a non-RS with RS seats.

Because of the steering wheel and the tan interior?

Ya. All RS's I have seen had the sport style wheel and I have never seen that color interior with Grey seats. And in fact have never seen that color interior in an RS. Although I have not seen all that many I admit. And its weird how the halo headrests are the tan color but the seats are grey. I also find the chrome trim around the door locks and stuff odd.

Well just finding out from another source that 84 was the last official year of the RS and the other Carpi's since would just be known as 5.0L and tagged with the 5.0 emblems.

Interesting. New one on my but that doesnt mean much. Had guy come over to my place last evening to pick up parts and he was driving what he claimed to be an 86RS. Had the all grey interior just like an 85-86 GT stang. I have seen plenty 85-86 Capris that were claimed to be RS models so Im curious if thats factual or what.

If the damage isnt to bad, go for it. The flared fenders always look cool.

They also had GS and GTS didn't they? I don't see why they would change it though.

Been readling alot the last few days about the makes now. In 1986 they didn't call the 5.0 Capri RS. Some places put the decals on as well as some owners. Here is link to the 1986 product line:

http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/Lite...tFactBooks/86_Mercury_ProductFactsBook_02.jpg

This is a really good resource for Carpi info:
http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/Literature/ProductFactBooks.htm

I'm currently driving my brothers 86 Capri 5.0 and it has the original factory interior in it that's all grey like the 86 Mustang GT.

-sliepnir16 there wasn't a GTS that I know of but there was a RS Turbo in the earlier 80's

Yeah I wasn't sure about the GTS, but I think the GS was a lesser performed Capri, I think it had a 4.4L or something in it.

It was some kind of in-line 4cyl. I'm leaning towards getting this car, but going to be a ride to get it back home.

Trying to get an idea of the drive to there, well the owner is about 2hrs away from Kansas City. He does have a rolling chasis of another Capri that use to be his race car.
