Just bought some GT-40's (iron) for 275 bucks. They are ported to intake/exhaust gaskets and have new seals/springs, and come with crane
1.7 rollers and were milled .005". I was just wondering if I should get a valve job/bowl polish done given all the new stuff on them or should I wait till I really need to upgrade. The car they came off of only had 40,000 miles. I am leanin towards holley systemax intake/upgraded exhaust and jewelry to go with it as next project.

Well i'm basically in the same boat as you are. I'm picking up a set of cast gt40 heads from a friend for $250 with cobra 1.7rr and crane? springs. I went to usa racing engines which is like 2 blocks from my house. They recommend having a "competition" valve job($200) and a bowl polish($120) and would include cleaning and decking the heads as well as checking the springs, guides , and seals .

I would definatly have the heads worked on, get them fully ported and polished. You will not regret it one bit, thats money well spent right there. Do it and if you got the money get bigger valves installed to. I've always favored cast iron heads my self, i just like running guys with aluminum heads down and then let them find out i got some old iron heads and i just beat theyre ass with them...hehe...just personall preferance....

You might as well get them all done up while they are off the car...do it right the first time

You should have thumper go to town on those bad boys. Port work/ surfaced flat/ performance valve job/ assembled, bolt on ready, for about 600 bucks. (upgraded valve springs are and extra 100) at least that's what he told me (mine are with him as we speak). He told me that when he’s done with them they will out flow gt40x heads with no problem!

I have two sets of these and really like them.

I would recommend either run them as is and spend no money, or do a 3 angle valve job, and have them milled for some compression, as a minimum.
