Simple question about line locks?

Will one soleniod coming off the master cylinder have enough power to hold both front brakes? I was thinking of putting one in between the master cylinder and where the line splits to go to both both front brake calipers. I saw on the S197 install, they used one for each side... Its gonna be warm soon, and I have a mach 1 front brake kit to install and figured I might as well do my line lock at the same time.

All the solenoid does is block the line with the pressure you have applied by using the pedal. It will hold the car fine, in fact that's how they're supposed to be installed as far as I know. Between the MC and the proportioning valve. Mine worked fine until my funky line routing caused a pin-hole and I had to bypass it with the stock lines for the time being. That reminds me I need to fix that now. lol

One solenoid works just fine.
I don't know how the brakes on the S197's are set up, but I would think the only reason 2 would be used is if you can't get the solenoid on a single line that has fluid for both front wheels.

If you have ABS, you have to have 2 solenoids. That's how mine is setup.

One will work fine, mine is between the MC and porpotinal valve.

Thanks for answers guys. My ABS light is on already, so I think Im gonna try installing one solenoid for now Revhead. My rear pads are shot, so my Brake light comes on and off when I leave lights (I think because the fluid is low). Could that be causing my ABS light to come on too? Ive heard the ABS is very sensitive to air and low fluid levels... I dont want to pay the money to get the light checked out until I at least get my new pads in the rear and mach 1 front kit installed.

the abs light could be caused by the low fluid,but normally the brake light comes on. abs gets set when it sees wheel speeds are way off from reference of the others or if it can not make the wheel slow down in proportion to the rest.
tire/rim sizes off from front and back or no brake pad can be your cause. thats what im betting on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have a little bit oversized tire in the rear vs the front. I installed the new rear pads and topped off the fluid and the light is still on, so I doubt its the fluid level like I originally thought. I bet its my way different tire sizes.

Im not wise enough to dump another $600 on smaller profile rear tires when mine have 1/2 the original tread left? But youre right, I will probably not install line locks until the ABS light is fixed in a year or so when the tires are replaced.

This will set off the abs light... but only once you are driving a bit...

I blew a tire on my old wheels and bought the wrong size for $25 just to get me home and it set off the light but only after I hit a certain speed.

We installed a 2 solenoid setup on our '07 because of the ABS. I don't know about previous generations, as I never installed line locks on my '03, but the ABS systems on the newer ones are very picky, and people have had some problems with a single solenoid setup. I think with a sn95, you'd be fine with a single solenoid setup. That said, it wouldn't hurt anything at all to go with a dual setup, and it's only 20 minutes more work to do it that way.

The ABS light can also be due to dirty sensors. The ABS sensor by each wheel is a magnet and and collect debris. Nothing a toothbruch and compressed air can fix.

Can someone tell me where the proportioning valve is? I've had a line lock solenoid hanging on the fender for 2 years and never hooked it up. Would be sweet to have it up and running for the warm weather just around the corner.

The brake lines come out of the MC and run right down into the prop. valve on my car. I don't have ABS though, so it could be different on those cars.

I had a bad ABS sensor with only 5kmi on the car. The guy sold it to me and sent me the sensor and he new which one was bad. If cleaning won't do it then you probably need a new sensor. They can run a code and find out which one it is.

Thanks for the info. When it warms up above 20 again Im gonna get out into the garage and brush off the sensors. If that doesnt work, maybe I will take it in just so I know if its the tires or something else. I still want to put in a line lock though!
