I'm installing a BBK off-road H-pipe on my '88 5.0 LX. Even though there are no catalytic converters in the new system, it still has an air tube welded in for connecting to the smog pump. Any idea why? I thought the only reason for the smog pump in the first place was to make the cats work properly. I was thinking about ditching the smog pump as part of this install, but figure the folks at BBK know more about this than me. Will keeping the smog pump connected to an off-road mid-pipe lower emmissions or possibly help exhaust scavanging by encouraging flow?
