OK, WTF! I'm getting a blue puff of smoke out of my right tailpipe when I start out in 1st gear. The car only has 45K miles on it, so it shouldn't be doing that should it? Guess I may have discovered the one bad thing about having a Budget Saleen. It was a rental!! :rlaugh: Hate to think I need a valve job or rings on a 45K mi. car. Anyone have any potential good news for me??

Sal

Hey: Maybe a good reason to upgrade to the PI heads and Bullit Intake I've been eying...

Damn Sal. What the hell?
I'm just kidding around. Come on. You know you have a rare car. You are just going to have to fix it. Anything can happen at any mileage. As I'm sure you're aware, blue smoke from the exhaust is oil being burnt in the
combustion chamber. The cause, excessively warn rings, a broken ring in at least one cylinder. Check all the plugs. If there is suddenly a great deal of smoke it is quite often a broken ring. Also warn valve
guides and or worn or perished valve stem seals. Do a wet then dry compression test first. Remove the valve covers and check the vale stem seals for brittleness. Do you have a compressor ? If so with the appropriate tools you can do a leak down test as well.
Has your mileage turned shi#*%tty lately. If so you are running rich. I bet it's just a warn ring. Someone else chime in. If it were me I would just drive it until it gets worse. Of course you had the best solution. New heads and why not the intake while you are there. :nice:

As a matter of fact, my gas mileage has been crap lately. I have a buddy of mine that says to try running 3 quarts of 10W30 and two quarts of 20W50 in it for the next oil change. Never even thought of that. Maybe I just got a crappy batch of oil last time. I took it to Big-o-Tires for the oil change because it was 117 degrees and I didn't feel like messing with it...

117 degrees outside. Arizona heat. That's your problem. Wont you love the cool ocean air when you come out for the Saleen show???
How is your blow by? Mixing oil weight sounds like a bandaid but it is an easy way to see if you can get rid of that blue smoke. Good luck.
