Smoothest aftermarket shifter? (searched)

i have a pro 5.0 shifter in my car now, since i bought it. i have really grown to dislike it and the "notchy" feel it has for just driving around.

i felt my cousin's stock shifter before he sold his car, and it was WORLDS better feeling then my pro 5.0. i can bang the gears faster with the pro probably from the stock, but i hate the notchy feel of it under normal paced shifts.

my question is, what shifter will give me shorter throw but closest to that stock smoothness without being notchy feeling like my pro 5.0?

i have read about the mgw one and it requires more effort and people missing second gear with it? that is not what i want from the sounds of it, that is what i was leaning towards before some reading. i basically drive my car around in the city now, so comfortable shifts are my number one priority. next are shorter and better located shifts.

can anyone give some feedback on aftermarket shifter feel along those lines? im leaning towards the tri-ax or even possibly a stock shifter now if it comes down to that.

What makes you 100% sure that it is your shifter. It could be your clutch cable isn't fully pulling the clutch out of position.

i love my pro 5.0. i agree with mackey, maybe something else is going on in your tranny.

it is adjusted fine, transmission is new. its always done it.

i have heard the notchy feeling is common.

I hated the soft mushy feeling of the stock rubber bushing on the stock shifter. Since i got my pro 5.0 its world better feeling.

Put the stock shifter back in with an aftermarket short handle. That might give you what you want.

so there is no shifter that is relatively smooth shifting except for stock then?

I've heard that the tri-ax is a little better. I deffinetly agree that the pro 5.0 is notchy for daily driving.

thanks, that is what im looking for. what is somewhat better even, not my favorite shifter for daily driving in the city.

Mine is notchy too. I just live with it. Love the shifter. Try MGW, I think that's the name. I have heard some good things about them.

what about B&M ripper? I heard those are good shifters...havent tried one tho...

If you put a longer shifter lever on the Pro 5.0 it will reduce the notchiness considerably.

I have both a Steeda Tri-Ax in my convertible and a UPR shifter in my 98 GT. The Steeda started out pretty notchy, but has gotten much better with use. The UPR started out less notchy than the Tri-Ax and has gotten to be very nice for a daily driver. Pretty smooth while still being positive feeling.

The MGW is notchy too... at least mine is. I only put a couple hundred miles on it so far but its slowly going away but I don't know how much in the end. Other than that its a great shifter. I am very pleased with it.

Shifters are different and some feel better. When you take them apart is when you can see how it wil feel. The Steeda Tri-Ax is metal bushing ball to metal cup (I have this and feel everything). I think the B&M has a nylon roller ball to metal cup (feel better when shifting). Everybody likes Pro 5 and Tri-Ax but before you purchace the shifter look on hows it's built.

B&M shifter is notchy. But not as notchy as the pro 5.0. I like my B&M with tri-ax handle.

Any aftermarket shifter is worlds better than the stock one IMHO...I'm on my 3rd pro 5.0 and love it..Had a Triax before,but preffer the 5.0...Just personal prefference...

I don't find my mgw "notchy" at all.. smooth, strong, and very quiet.

thanks for all the input.

i may try a different shifter handle on my pro 5.0 for more leverage to see how the notchy feel is. would save money also if it works out.

i like my pro 5.0 for fast shifts and for a more open driving area. in the city though where your on someones ass instantly when you take off, and slow shifts it doesnt cut it.
