Actually, the notch looks lighter-colored/dirty because of the light reflecting from the driveway behind it. With the '04 behind the Capri, it's got a different bunch of backlighting in the photo. Placed side-by-side, the notch actually looks a bit darker and more shiny than the Capri (in person, anyway)...

I think that some sort of strange cosmic warp has occurred, somehow switching our cars from their usual parking spots.

What's even stranger is that I have the title to the 'vert AND the notch in my house...
