First of all my blower is getting back monday


So i was talking to the tech on the phone and he told me that it doesnt matter if you use synthetic oil with a blower...Now i know some of you guys swear by conventional oil with a blower but my tuner and the vortech guys say synthetic is the way to go...

now im just confused

If it were me i would always use synthetic oil just to be safe, but good luck on getting the blower back!

Well, Tim says to use conventional and he has tuned and installed more blowers on these cars than anyone else. He also see's repeat customers so I am sure he has first hand knowledge of whats best.

I think if the motor is built for a blower its not as big of a deal. But with a stock motor, I would think a conventional would help with blow by.

right im just saying that the synthetic oil is not what caused my bearings to go bad like i had been thinking

I look at it this way. vortech makes blowers for a lot of cars that run synthetic. i.e corvette, camaro, gto, 350z, and lexus is300. how many of those guys are having severe blowby problems? really? and do you think anybody with one of those cars is gona switch to a conventional? Hell no. I actually called vortech myself the other day and asked them about this and they said they have never heard of synthetics causing blown supercharger seals or increasing blowby. When i install my vortech I will be running mobil1 all the way.

this may be funny but i use a conventional oil and have never had problems. i don't see how either could cause bearings to go out. I would say your just not getting oil to those bearings. so it may be more than just changing the oil...

hate to say that but...

have you ever ran low on oil??? because it doesn't take much when when your talking about thousands of RPM's!

no i just changed my oil about 200 miles ago to mobil 1 synthetic, and the fact that there is a puddle of oil int he powerpipe tells me its getting plenty of oil. I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge as well and im getting good pressure...

I wouldnt worry about conventional oil vs synthetic oil causing the bearing failure. I think its just crap luck the bearings went out and it prolly wont do it again. I run Mobil 1 synthetic for the past 2 years and no probs here. In fact, the install manual for my vortech from a couple years ago says make sure you use synthetic oil.

I use conventional because its cheap...and you're supposed to change the oil every 3k miles with a blower - and I sure as s*** am not going to pay synthetic prices every month lol.

That would be my guess - not that Vortech will ever admit to it...lol...but they have been swamped with warranty returns/exchanges for the past few months (at least 2wk backup on blowers). Not to mention all the V2's that have been blowing up over the past couple months in all sorts of cars.

I wish vortech would just man up and tell me that its their bad so i don't have to feel paranoid for now on about it

Mine was part of it but i would like to know if they correct the situation when rebuilding it under warranty?

Just dont want to start all over again in a few miles
