I dont rememebr where I read about it, whether it was here or on modulardepot. but someone made a spacer, that makes the gas pedal closer to the brake pedal (height wise) and that also takes out that 'slop' that the pedal has. If you pull up on the pedal you'll see a ton of travel and slack in the cable.

It could just be the Ford tune. I know with my automatic I can press it down a certain amount and any more and the car shifts to v8 mode and takes off. It doesn't downshift, I think the cpu just reads the load/throttle position or something. My car does the same thing, but my throttle cable is taught, so I know it's not that. Just take your air intake off and have someone look at the throttle body (with the car off) and mat the gas pedal, try a little pressure too to see how much play the cable does have in it
