Someone makes a dog thread, and we have to put ours down?

So in light of the now 3 page dog thread this kind of comes as a shock to me. Someone asked what you have for dogs and of course my response...

Golden Retriever named Nikki. She is 14 years old and still going strong!

Yup you guessed it, irony? It's like when you say something and feel the need to knock on wood, well right now I wish I thought of that, lol.

SUCKS to see her go, grew up with her, saw her everyday, she never did anything wrong and basically lived her life as a puppy. It's never fun coming home seeing the mom crying and just knowing what it was for. Thank god she was there still, and I got to say goodbye. Couldn't go to the vet, just wasn't up for it, but I'll be alright with it in due time!

Alright back to the Mustang World for everyone! :(

Sorry to hear that.

I also experienced the irony as i had to put my 16-year old cat down the same day that thread was started.

It sucks. I still am not really over it. I miss my cat :(

Sorry to hear that man, i never forget my first dog either. She is always on my mind.

mustang5l5 sorry bout the cat man, i know not many guys like cats but i love em and i have always had em. I know its hard but go to the shelter in a few weeks/month and find an adult cat, not real old, just not a kitten, and rescue him. They are always the ones who get put down. and its sad.

Thanks. We had two cats. A brother and sister from the same litter. Still got the brother, so no real desire to get another.

I have a dog too.

Yeah it's funny this was not my first dog. Had a German Shepard that we put down when I was 5 or 6, but I was real young back then. Had a dog from my grandmother that we had put down, and a few years back had my sisters dog put down. Besides the Shepard the others didn't really get ot me, but this was my dog. We got her from my uncle after his fiance broke up with him, and we wacthed her grow up. I was 8 when we got her, and she was 14 when she was put down. They told us she would need hips replaced by 2 or she wouldn't walk, and she never had any surgury and walked great! Just a great dog, sad she had to go but we all move on!

Thanks guys!

Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. I grew up with a Boston Terrier named "Prissy". We got her when I was 6, we had to put her to sleep after my first year of college. She was with me for most of my life at that point, it really was like losing a family member. That was about 7 or 8 years ago and I still feel VERY sad as I type this.

The worst part is the actual putting down procedure. It sucks. You want to be there with the animal when it goes but it's just rough emotionallly to hold your pet in your arms that you have played with for years and years and feel it go limp and stop breathing.

It was rough. It's been 5 days since I put my cat down and it's still fresh in my mind. :(

So, in order to lighten the mood with some twisted humor.....

...when i was about 4 i had a beagle puppy named Windy (i know, gay name, but my sister named it)... anyway, EVERY single day i'd take Windy out and play and yada yada... Well one day she ran away and i never saw her again.. however, a couple years later i was walking down the street one block over from me, and i saw a beagle that looked EXACTLY like her.. so, in my 5-6 year old ignorance i walked up to it and was like "windy!".. however, at the time i didn't know the dog was a stray and not leashed up... the dog chased me down, bit me, i flailed and guess i hit it, and it ran away... i remember being six years old and literally just saying "what the ****!" lol. yeah, i've always been a bit of a potty mouth :(... hope that might have cheered a few of you guys up?

First off 25th, im real sorry for you loss. animals are like family to most people and i couldn't live without my dogs, so i completely understand how difficult it is. We put down my 13 year old Black Lab last year, I don't think my mom can even look at another black dog without crying

That my friend is the hardest thing i have ever done. Im known as the "tough azzhole" type, i mean he11 im a project supervisor for a construction crew so i gotta be a hard azz. But we had a boxer we rescued from an abusive situation. She was a beautiful dog but extremely unpredictable. She would be playing fine with out other dog and then out of no where lunge at her trying to rip its head off. She attacked multiple people that came to the house for no reason, to the point no one would come around. So finally after many attempts to get help for her or give her to a boxer rescue we came to the conclusion we had to put her down for everyone's saftey and her own. It was very hard on my wife as she put some much time and effort into helping this dog. I think i was more upset then her and i hated that dog LOL. Its just hard to see such a cute dog that is sitting there all happy to see you suddenly go limp. I hope to never have to do it again.

Thanks guys. Things are better today but what really bothers me is some of my "friends". Now other than the post here or there and my away message mentioning it, I didn't bring it up to people. I can deal with things, vent a little online and be over it after some time, no worries.

Well my friend sends a Happy Valentines Day to me in an email yesterday afternoon. The email asked me what I was up to and told me her and her BF were going out. After I get home and had to deal with all that drama I get a text from her. She goes, "well you could have been my hot date tonight, Mike is sick and is taking me out tomorrow". So needless to say I came back with "Hey i would love to go out but had to put the dog down today so I'm not really in the mood". She pretty much texts saying, oh sorry but my BF this and my BF that and to be lucky I'm not her. Another girl whose a "good friend" I sent her an IM saying Happy V-day of course. She responded later, obviousely seeing my away message, and pretty much avoided that altogether. Another girl I helped through a bad break up by being there, talking to her and just being a good friend. Some people really only car about themselves it seems. I had more of my guy friends there for me than girls. Actually other than the girls saying sorry, I'll ttyl, they did nothing but annoy me. The guys called to make sure me and my family are alright, actually talked with me about it, and told me if I or my fam. needs anything let them know.

Amazing, now idk if I can judge some people based off this type of thing, but if I were ever in a bad situation, I guarantee I WONT be calling the girls.
