can someone exprain SCT tune?

Allows optimization of typically conservative factory spark and fuel mapping as well as things like shift points/harshness, gear ratios and the like. The Xcal, as an example, is a little box that your SCT dealer will program with up to three "tunes" after you give him the computer code for your car. These "tunes" will be a modified version of that factory base tune, with more timing, more/less fuel (all depends...) and other parameters modified to suit your combo. You might get a 91-octane tune, a 93-octane one and perhaps a valet tune that limits engine speed to 2500RPM or something. You then plug this thing into your car's OBD-II port (under the center console), push a button to select which of the three tunes you want, push another button to initiate a programming sequence and then turn the key on. The Xcal will automagically reprogram the calibration parameters in the car's PCM using this new tune. The process takes perhaps 5 minutes and when it's done, you turn the key off, unplug the Xcal and you're good to go.

You can use a free software pack from SCT called "Extreme Tune" that allows you to modify a few parameters on your own, without having to go back to the dealer. Of course, you need an extra-cost PC cable to burn this new tune into the Xcal. If you get a 93-octane tune but still hear some pinging at WOT, you can pull a degree or two of timing out easily with this tool, reburn the Xcal and then update your PCM.

And Thanks for the info Trinity. So then its not something like Diablo Predetor then, as I think predetor only rewrite preprogrammed tune in to ur ECU(or does it alow u to adjust some parameter?)

The SCT stuff, Diablo stuff, TwEECer stuff all alter essentially the same parameters (fuel, spark, shift points, etc). For the most part all the software is very similiar. People like to say that one is for sure better than the other, but in reality they all alter the same tables.

As Red said, the essential function of these tuning devices is all about the same. They all address spark timing, fuel delivery, gear ratios and the like. There are only so many ways to skin that cat, as it were.

The bigger difference lies in the user interfaces and ancillary functions. The current Xcal (not the Xcal-II) is just a box with a microcontroller, some memory chips (one for each tune) and interfacing hardware. It's sole function in life is to read the factory tune and allow you to burn any one of 4 (3 custom or back to factory) tunes from/to the PCM. If you want to modify tunes with the Xcal you need either a dealer with tuning software or a computer (e.g. laptop) to work the files and a cable to talk to the Xcal to burn the revised tune in. The Predator, as an example, allows you to fiddle with the parameters by manipulating keys and reading the LCD. The new Xcal-II will include a fancy (and expensive) LCD and a more Predator-like user interface as well as data-logging abilities not found in the current Xcal.

it depends on what you are talking about. the SCT excalibur is similar to the preditor, but the SCT pro racer package is far beyond both. as far as i know, Diablo has nothing that compares to the Pro Racer kit.

I was more comparing the Chipmaster Revolution software to the SCT software to the TwEECer software.

Diablo has yet to release an end-user program to the public. TwEECer and EEC Tuner were the first and only to do so until SCT did recently.

So basicaly, if I have no knowlege of tuning(or access to Dyno to see what really going on), end user tunability is sort of useless then right? For some of us who has no knowlege of what the fuel curve and so on should be, Diablo is more safer way to go?

It really depends. I would get a Predator. The SCT XCal 2 is a good piece and you can do pretty much everything you can on a Predator.

Either will work for someone without the time/knowledge to tune the car yourself. It just depends on your needs and wants.
