well im about to install my alum flywheel and tremec goodies. my question is what clutch do you think i should use, spec or FMS.

spec: will hold a lot more power them im making but i hear it dosent have very good street manners

fms: not a bad clutch, ive liked it so far

BTW i have both clutches sitting in my garage right now but dont know what one to choose

my power is probably in the 280rwhp range and i dont plan on any serious mods anytime soon. maybe just some sticky tires

If I were looking at SPECs in that power range Id look at the Stage 1 or 2. Cheaper and will hold the power. I have a Stage 1 that has lasted through probably 80-100 quarter mile runs along with last season of drag radials. It wasnt till I tried power shifting that it started to grab high, still doesnt even slip. I've never had a Ford clutch so I cant comment on that.

I have heard SPEC 3's are great.... how ever SPEC 2's chatter like holy hell

everybody complains about driveability, but the first time i drove joes car with the blower all was well. the second time i drove it after the 347 it chattered every now and then. if i hadnt gone with pro motion, i probably would have gone with the spec 3.

yea the only problems ive heard of was chatter... and i think my friend might of had a spec 4 puck style that snapped a puck clear off and imbedded it in to his tranny of his h22'd hatch... im not sure if it was a spec though..

I have heard this too and wouldn't have every bought specifically a SPEC. However, I recently bought Dream94GT's car and it has a SPEC 2 on it and it has zero chatter and it isn't too on/off either. I still prefer centerforce d/f, but this has changed my views on SPEC a little anyway.

I have 1kmi on a spec stage 3 and the street manners on mine are not good. SPEC said the clutch would get better after 500mi, it did but it is very "grabby". I am looking at getting something different. Mabye with more miles it would get better?

Right now I have 650rwhp so with the amount you are making I would never go with a stage 3 spec, I would use a King Cobra or a King Cobra pressure plate and a centerforce disc if you want more holding. I hate the standard FMS clutch, the King Cobra has much better pedal feel for $30 more.

I have no experience with the Spec clutches, but I've run the King Cobra once before, and just installed one when I dropped in my new engine. I'm very pleased with the overall feel of the clutch, and even though it's not broken in yet, it's never chattered, since the first time I've driven the car.
