Speed Density to Mass Air? (CA)

Comtemplating turning my wife's old clunker '87 GT into a street fighter. Does any know if it's smog legal to convert a Speed Density car to Mass Air in th California? I don't have the slightest idea of where to look or who to ask.

Well, any engine that is newer than the car is legal in most if not all places... So I guess the mass air conversion is legal too.

Funny you should ask. The first MA engines were tested in CA in 88. They didnt go into mass production until 89. So ya I think its ok

Any one know for sure? Are there any resources I could check?

I've called around and keep getting "you should be ok" answers but I need something a little more definitive.

go ahead and do it.itll be fine, epa mandates that the same year or newer engine has to replace the old one.your not replacing just adding upon the old one with a well know upgrade, you would be helping your emissions.and like he said before cali wa the first state to have maf on mustangs.youll be fine.
