Hello all,
I would like an upgrade path for my car. The last time I was at a tuner they told me I was at ceiling with my stock fuel pump / injectors at ~400whp. What do people usually do when they are at this point?

Car: 2002 Mustang GT Convertible
Current Mod list:

Engine Modifications
Kenne Bell 9 psi intercooled supercharger (capable of 12 psi)
Kenne Bell "big mouth" intake system: 90mm throttle body, mass air flow sensor, cold air intake, KB Boost-a-Pump
Forged Iron Block and Internals
VT Comp engine forged and balanced
Diablo Racing Chip: Dyno tuned on the new engine and supercharger

Exhaust Modifications
Full MAC Exhaust:
BBK short-tube headers
Prochamber mid-pipe
Full 3 inch catback

Other Modifications
Racing Clutch: McLeod Kevlar
Pro 5.0 short throw shifter
Aluminum driveshaft
Aluminum flywheel
Subframe connectors

I can't remeber if our stock injectors are 19 or 24's. I beleive they are 24's. You can prob get away with upgradeing to 36, and you shouldn't need anymore then 42 pound injectors. As far as the fuel pump goes go with something like a walboro 255. So that fuel pump matched with the 42 injectors should be plenty even if you decide to go faster in the future. Don't worry about the fuel rails yet, I know they can support what you are trying to acomplish. And of course, everything will have to be retuned.

WHOA! you are running a KB with a stock FP and injectors?!! Thats is dangerous, you must have SOME fuel upgrades... What you need now is 42 injectors and an 04 cobra tank and pumps. Once you reach the limit of that system you can upgrade to Ford GT pumps and then get a boost a pump if you need it.

DO NOT use a Walboro FP. They are horrible for returnless fuel systems.

Yes, I do have the KB Boost-a-pump installed that came with the Kenne Bell S/C kit.

If my goal were to get an additional ~50hp, is this what I should do:
42lb injectors
Cobra fuel system (Tank + pumps)
12psi Pulley for KB (Maybe +25hp??)
Re-tune

Sorry for my ignorance, but after this step I am going to ask the same question again. What next?

Stock injectors are 19 or 21lbs depending on model year. if he has KB installed, he has larger injectors. my guess would be 39lb Cobra injectors.

Thanks for the reply. That is the problem - I bought this car with all the current work already done, so all I have to reference is what documentation was provided during the purchase (w/o taking the engine apart).

This is a good learning process.

KB kits come with 36lb injectors. The older ones did anyway. 39lb cobra injectors won't fit. They are the tall ones. The easy upgrade is to just go with 42lb injectors and upgrade the fuel pump to a Ford GT pump.

If anyone has these parts for sale please let me know as I'm sure it would save me money rather then letting the shop find them for me.

It sounds like I know what to do to upgrade the current fuel system. After installing the 12psi pulley what would be next? I want to try to bundle as much into this upgrade as possible (within reason) so I don't have to re-tune a bunch of times.

if you are going to keep adding power, you might as well spend the cash on 42 injectors and the cobra tank and pumps. I got my tank and pumps used for $500 shipped.

Well you better start looking into a built bottem end also. You said your at 400ish now so you really don't have much SAFE room to play since 450rwhp is the line.

What are you running for a MAF?

For fuel you might as well go with the 42lb injectors and Cobra Tank and Pumps and get it out of the way.

Alright - I have the fuel system upgrade planned out with 42lb injectors and cobra tank and pumps.

I don't know forsure what I have for an MAF - assume it came with the Kenne Bell kit.

Dumb question #1: What do I need for a built bottom end? How do I know it doesn't already have one? It is a VT Comp engine w/ forged head and internals.

Dumb question #2: What is the next logical step after the fuel upgrades and pulley upgrade for additional power assuming I don't have to re-build the bottom end.

First off you need to figure out what internals you have, and how much HP they can support. Its worthless to spend your whole budget on more power when you break your shortblock the next day and have no money to fix it. I'd contact the seller you bought it from and ask him the details.

He stated in his first post that he has a forged bottom end.

I contacted the shop that worked on it and they have not gotten back to me yet. Lets assume I am good to go until I hear back from them.

I missed the part where you said you have a VT Block. So you have forged internals. Since its VT don't plan on them getting back to you because they went under.

Since you have built bottom end you can pulley down quite a bit. Do the Cobra tank and pumps and pick up an SCT 2400MAF and smaller pulley, get it tuned and hang on. That will make you some killer power prolly more than what you'll want. LOL

As for making more power after that, all that’s really left is Heads and Cams. You might want to look into building up your tranny too.

Nice! I just purchased an 04 Cobra tank, pumps and lines. I over paid a little(600 shipped) but it was the only one I could find. Now I need is the SCT 2400MAF, smaller pulley, and tune.

Question: Do I need bigger injectors??? Or can I use the Kenne Bell 36lb ones that are currently in there. (I think)

Id get the 42lb injectors. Think of it this way, how much would it suck if during your tune the injectors got maxed out? Now u gotta buy new injectors and pay for ANOTHER tune. At the very least i would buy them n keep them in the box just incase so if you dont need them you can just return them. N if you do need them look whos prepared lol. Just one mans opinion.

You will push the limits of your injectors, I'd get some 42's before you hit the dyno

You always want to over do it when upgrading parts so you can have room to grow and also to not strain what you have. If you want 500rwhp you don’t want to build a motor only good for 550rwhp because it will always be right at its limits and IF you would ever want more now you don’t much to play with.

Get 42s and know that you won’t be maxing them out.

Here is what the shop wants, after I gave them my list.

Install Cobra Tank, dual pumps, and lines
60lb injectors (What is the hp limit for 42s, any drawbacks to 60s?)
SAF 2600MAF (Said they don't make the 2400 anymore)
12psi pulley
Chip (they don't tune my brand of chip so I have to buy a new one )
Re-tune

I will post prices when I get them back but wanted to check on the 60 injectors.
