There is no need for a spring compressor!!! We do not have coil overs.
Just take off the wheel
Undo the abs clips
remove the caliper and rotor
Undo the 2 lower strut bolts
Slowly lower the control arm reducing the tension(so the spring doesn't come shooting out)and the spring can come out
Install in reverse order but you may need a pry bar for the control arm to allow the spring into the perch area.
Great. so when the jack slips the spring shoots out at you or in a friend of mines case bends your lower controll arm you will have a crazy and dumb story to tell.. use a spring compressor at least for the SAFETY factor.
he bent the lower control arm? how did that happen? did the car fall on top it or something??? I would say on stock springs you may need a compressor if you didnt want it to shoot out. Mine I just lower it all the way then used a long pry bar with a strap on the spring an it popped out with little force at all. The strap never came in to play as the spring just popped up a little bit onto the spring perch.
Both Eibach's should go in perfectly fine without a compressor due to the over uncompressed spring length.
So basically he ****ed it up and had no idea of what he was doing. I'll go with that.I believe the jack wasnt centerd and when he poped the strut bolts the spring unloaded itself shot the jack out and bent the end of the controll arm you gotta keep in mind that there is a lot of compressed energy in those things.
Its great that not using a spring compressor has worked for some of you guy but ill never change a set of springs (except the rears) without one.
Here is a writeup of how to do a front spring install.

Granted I remove the 2 lower strut bolts instead of remove from the top as it is easier removing the bottom ones.
If you exercise common sense and know what you are doing you can do it with ease and do not need a spring compressor.

your gonna raise you car....
ya go with what ever makes you feel good.
