I have Eibach Sportlines now and want to put in the Pro Eibachs. Do I still need a spring compressor for the fronts or can I get away without one because of reduced spring length?

There is no need for a spring compressor!!! We do not have coil overs.

Just take off the wheel
Undo the abs clips
remove the caliper and rotor
Undo the 2 lower strut bolts
Slowly lower the control arm reducing the tension(so the spring doesn't come shooting out)and the spring can come out

Install in reverse order but you may need a pry bar for the control arm to allow the spring into the perch area.

Great. so when the jack slips the spring shoots out at you or in a friend of mines case bends your lower controll arm you will have a crazy and dumb story to tell. :notnice:. use a spring compressor at least for the SAFETY factor.

Umm maybe you haven't installed enough springs in your life to know you do not need one. I have done it without one every time and haven't had a spring come out yet. I was smart enough to secure the springs with straps too. Common sense and knowing what you are doing works wonders.

There are plenty of write ups online that show you how to do it.

he bent the lower control arm? how did that happen? did the car fall on top it or something??? I would say on stock springs you may need a compressor if you didnt want it to shoot out. Mine I just lower it all the way then used a long pry bar with a strap on the spring an it popped out with little force at all. The strap never came in to play as the spring just popped up a little bit onto the spring perch.

Both Eibach's should go in perfectly fine without a compressor due to the over uncompressed spring length.

When I removed the stock springs, I used a strap for a safety measure. Of course I never needed it at all. Even with my lowering springs in I used a strap, never needed it. The key is to lower the jack slowly.

I would love to see how the hell a control arm bent being I have pried on that thing with a prybar with all my might and it never bent.

I believe the jack wasnt centerd and when he poped the strut bolts the spring unloaded itself shot the jack out and bent the end of the controll arm you gotta keep in mind that there is a lot of compressed energy in those things.

Its great that not using a spring compressor has worked for some of you guy but ill never change a set of springs (except the rears) without one.

So basically he ****ed it up and had no idea of what he was doing. I'll go with that.

ummmm, I wouldn't start loosen the strut bolts if they didnt come off easily. Everytime I did springs I was able to loosen the strut nuts a little then take them off by hand. IF there was any pressure at all on those nuts I wouldnt keep taking them off. the bolts from the struts should pretty much stay the same length through the shock tower and not being pulled out until you lower the jack slowly.

hope that made sense. I am tired

your gonna raise you car....

Yep, its too low and the non progressive springs ride too harsh. Also I want to get 18's with 315 out back and need to minimize rubbing issues. Love the stance but our roads suck and the progressive springs will ride so much nicer.

ya go with what ever makes you feel good.

It doesn't matter to me. I am just saying you don't need certain things to make that repair if you know what you are doing.

If he had a jack under the control arm that had some pressure on it, when he removes the strut bolts, nothing would happen. Then he can slowly reduce the pressure on the control arm by SLOWLY lowering the floor jack.

NOT A SALE THRED, SO PLEASE DONT START (can pm me though) See hthe reason why I ask is want to selloff my Sprotlines and get Progressive, I dont need a gocart, I want better rough road obsortion. So sice they are both already lowering springs I hoped I dont have to drop another 30 bucks for a spring compressor (i am poor) if I can just change them. So it sounds like a split, BTW I dlo have strong saftey strap to hold it compressed but then I stll have the problem of putting the new spring in , do I?

the new spring will go in without a compressor as well. The best way I found is to put the top up first, then line up the shortest part (of the coil) on the bottom with the lowest part of the control-arm-spring-hole-sitting-spot, and give it a little (honestly not that much) convincing with a prybar. Works like a charm.
