I was discussing a problem with tapping coming from the 5 cylinder area and trying to firgure out if there was a way to check/ isolate a lifter going bad or or bearing. The good is the tapping follows the RPMs the part that scares me is a light throttle or idle with a piece of hose to my ear (similar to broomstick method) I heard almost like a rattle but I think its more toward the cylinder area instead of the block. Anyway I was wondering if removing the plug wire from that area would be able to tell if it was a lifter or bearing? Oh if it does should the noise go away if it was a lifter and stay if it was a beraring or what? Hopefully this will make since of some sort to you guys. I'm in the desert and have nothing to do right now so I'm working on a game plan for my car when I get home.
