heres my problem, my car is on its 3rd transmission. its a 1991 2.3 automatic. and one night i was at a stop sign and i hit the gas to go and nothing happened, then it slowly started to accelerate. then later that night i went to another stop sign and i hit the gas to go and it stalled out. Now i can start my car and it will idle fine in Park and Nuetral, but as soon as i put it in any gear(1,2,D,OD,R) it stalls out, but my dad told me that he had the rearend of the car jacked up and it would go into gear fine, but i cant confirm this happened. I think it might have something to do with my torque convertor, but im not sure do you guys have any ideas?

Not sure this is it, but GM cars, especially Chevy Cavaliers, had a problem with the torque converter lockup switch/solenoid, failing to release when you came to a stop. So the car would act like a stick shift you forgot to push in the clutch, and stall every time you slowed down and stopped.

That is one possiblilty, since the lockup in the A4LD is electronicly controlled via a solenoid.

Next up would be a failed throttle position sensor, or vehicle speed sensor.

My Plymouth Voyager 3.0 would do this when the throttle body got dirty, and the dirt interferred with the airflow through the idle air passage. I have not heard of this being a common Ford issue though.

Scan for codes, it should show something to look for that way.

i dont have a scanner though. if it makes any difference i can rev the engine up, but it wont move. i even tried to do a nuetral to 1st drop and that didnt even get me anywhere.

ok, i just jacked the rear end up, and it will go into gear and go perfectly fine, buuuuut, when i hit the brakes making the back tires stop the car cuts off, so now i think its my rearend...can someone PLEASE help me, i need my car.

Where is this solenoid located at? and would it be easy to replace?

Sounds like the aforementioned torque converter problem.

The tc and od solenoid valves are part of the valvebody, inside the transmission pan.

I would at least go to autozone and see if they will scan it, or try to find if it has set any trouble codes before I took anything apart.

yea i would take my car up there, but it wont move lol.
